Seeking justice for victims of rape

May 28, 2007 · Print This Article

Today, The Daily Telegraph has launched a major campaign and is calling on everyone to show their support in pressuring the NSW State Government to make desperately needed changes to the way victims of rape are treated.

Between 70 and 90 per cent of rapes are never reported. That’s 35,000 rapes of women – and the victims are usually women – in NSW every year that are never even investigated.

Those numbers are frightening, and with the way those that do come forward are treated, is it any wonder why. With police, prosecutors and health workers condemning the shocking treatment of rape victims by the justice system how can this problem be ignored?

The Daily Telegraph campaign seeks four key reforms:

#1 No delays

#2 Lawyers for victims

#3 No means no

#4 One-stop shop
