What Women Want Australia, is a new political party giving a voice to Australian women launches today in Brisbane. The party is set to contest the 2007 Federal election with a clear agenda; to improve Australian political life and policy through greater involvement of women.
WWW is the brainchild of Justine Caines, a socially active mum of 6 children living in rural NSW. “Much is being said about women taking a greater role in politics and yet little is being done. The major parties behave like boys clubs and despite some wonderful female MP’s, the role of women in Australian life needs to be enhanced,” said Ms Caines.
Formed in April, the party quickly gained momentum with more than 700 members. The party, which in is the process of seeking registration with the Australian Electoral Commission, plans to run candidates in the Senate and key marginal House of Representative seats.

Great! I hope this party encourages more women to get involved in the political process.

I’m all for women being active in politics, on every level. I think we bring a unique perspective to the whole thing, and I think it’s about time we’re heard. Great job!

Great we need more women in politics , it is a bit of a boys club at the moment.
Fantastic. Not only are Australian women some of the cutest women in the world–they can really kick ass–and it is great they are organizing politically.
For some reason I am a woman who has always been interested in politics–I think it is because my parents talked about it at home and encourage us to join in.
But, as Mara B said–women need to get involved–and it looks like in Australia it is happening.
No one has done this in America. And I am one who does not really think Hillary Clinton is going to do all that much for women.
But I would not be surprised to see great things come out of the Aussie women!
