Jeans for Genes Day

July 25, 2007

Jeans for Genes DayNext week, Friday 3rd of August is Jeans for Genes day.

Chances are you probably know of someone who has a genetic disease, because one in twenty children are born with some form of genetic fault. There are children with leukaemia, muscular dystrophy, genetic defects and many other disorders.

Jeans for Genes is a major fundraiser of the Children’s Medical Research Institute. The scientists at the Children’s Medical Research Institute are working to try to prevent these diseases before they occur in our children, or where that is not possible to develop better treatments.

Jeans for Genes Day is held on the first Friday of August each year, and it’s fun and easy to get involved. Just wear your jeans to work or school and make a donation, or buy merchandise to help raise funds to allow scientist to continue with their wonderful work.

6 fun online photo editing tools

July 23, 2007

This is something that my kids LOVE doing and has them entertained and laughing for hours. We take lots of digital photos in our house so there is never a shortage of pictures for them to play with. It can be just as entertaining for some adults as well.

You don’t need to be a whiz with expensive software to do some creative editing with your pictures. It can be fun and easy for the whole family to have a go at these 6 fun online photo editing tools.

Simpsonize Me

Simpsonize Me - Another of the many promotional tools out there for the new Simpsons Movie. Simpsonize Me allows you to upload a photo of yourself and it will Simpsonise you.

This is me with the Simpson touch. Not sure if it is very accurate.

Pikipimp - Is a favorite for my kids. Once you have uploaded your picture you can set to work adding a huge range of items to pimp out your picture. Beards, hair styles, clothes, jewellery and tons of other stuff.

Comeeko now called Pikistrips, another tool from the makers of Pikipimp allows you to make your own comic strips from your photos. Make a photo strip of pictures from an event, or a fun comic strip.

Scrapblog
- Scrapblogs allows anyone to be creative and put together their photos and videos to share with family and friends. Cheaper, easier and less messy than normal scrapbooking.

Picnik We have covered Picnik before, it is such a great tool, easy and you can do a lot with it.

Big huge labs- If you are flickr user, here are some fun tools and effects for you to add to your photos.

Site of the Week- Etsy

July 18, 2007

Etsy is a personal favorite. I often get lost in its pages browsing, and have made some great purchases there.

Etsy is a superstore for buying and selling all things handmade.  If you like markets and craft stalls, you will LOVE Etsy.

There is a huge variety of items for sale there, an amazing array of jewellery, home wares, clothes, art, toys  and so much more. Best of all, it’s all lovingly handmade by people all over the world. So your getting something special, lovingly hand crafted not mass produced rubbish.

Etsy it can be very addictive, but don’t let that stop you.

The Well of Positivity

July 16, 2007

Breast Cancer foundationDo you believe in the power of positive thinking? Well Mount Franklin does. That is why they have created the Well of Positivity.

Together with your help, Mount Franklin would like to raise $250,000 for Breast cancer research. They have donated $100,000 and they would like your help to raise the other $150,000. It’s so easy to do, for every positive thought you drop into the well, they will donate $1 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

So go and drop a few of your positive thoughts into the well, and share the site with all the Women you know.
