Top 50 Australian Women Bloggers updated

October 31, 2007

The list has was painfully updated last night (no thanks to Optus!) Please bare with me while the bugs are still ironed out in my processes, I’ll apologise in advance.

We have a few new sites coming into the list..

We’ve had a huge response during the week, a huge thank you to everyone who posted about the list during the week, letting others know about it. We have had lots of people letting us know about their blogs, or ones that they know of.

Quite a few people have been asking exactly how it works, so I will give you a brief run down.

Any Australian living here, or abroad is welcome to submit a blog to the list. Also, anyone who is living currently living and blogging in Australia, a temporary Aussie.

The ranking is an average of your technorati ranking and Alexa AU ranking. You must have both of these ranks to be considered for the list.

To find your Technorati ranking visit technorati.com/blogs/yourdomain.com.au you should sign up and claim your blog if you have not already done so.

For your Alexa ranking just visit www.alexa.com and search for your blog URL. This will bring up your profile, visit the traffic details section to find your rankings. Your Au ranking you will find by scrolling right to the bottom. Unfortunately, if you do not have an Alexa AU ranking of your own (not the default blogger or blogspot rankings) we cannot calculate your blog.

I hope that has cleared up some of your questions, feel free to contact me or comment here if you have any more, or more sites to suggest.

All Women Blogging Carnival

October 29, 2007

It’s Monday again! A little more painful that a normal Monday being just after the start of Daylight Savings here in some states of Australia, us Mums are up an hour earlier and the kids sleep in…that somehow seems very unfair! So for our overseas friends, you will need to take the time change into consideration when submitting your posts (so many people like to wait till last minute)

This weeks carnival is being hosted by my fab friend Patric at Mad goat lady. She did a wonderful job of recruiting new ladies to participate, it’s great to see so many new faces. Hope they will continue to join in the fun! Don’t forget to link back to the host, to let everyone know your participating.

We are nearly out of hosts for the carnival, so please let me know if you would like to host. Next week we are off to Jen’s at Semantically Driven. It really is super easy to host!

Have you seen our new Top 50 Australian Women Bloggers list? I’m really excited about it, there is such an amazing bunch of girls on the lists, and I love being able to share them with everyone. Thank you to everyone who has been sending in site suggestion and posting about it on their blogs to help spread the word. The list will be updated tomorrow, and I’ll explain a little more about how it works, for those that have been asking :)

And last, but not least…

Here at All for Women we have run a Secret Santa for the last 3yrs, it is lots of fun. Patric and I thought, we have made so many wonderful blogging friends, we would like to share the fun with them! So if your an Aussie blogger, and would like to join in, jump over to Aussie Swaps

October 24, 2007

We Aussies are a proud and patriotic bunch aren’t we? I just love that no matter where you are we seem to manage to form a special friendship and community, like with our blogging. Our lists and groups where everyones a mate. Meg has done a fantastic job of helping to bringing us all together.

With All for Women, connecting Australian Women has always been my main aim. Helping and promoting fantastic Aussie Women is just a part of that.

There are some amazingly talented Australian Women bloggers out there, and I feel so lucky to call some of them friends, and love meeting new ones. I wanted a way that I could let everyone else out there know about them too. So with the help from the top list guru Meg the Top 50 Australian Women’s Blogs was born.

We are going to start out with 50, and see how we go from there. There are so many fabulous ladies there, I’m really proud to be among them, and showing them off. I am sure there are blogs that I have missed, so please send them through. If you have any suggestions or criticisms, let me know too.

I made a button to use on my own sites, but you are more than welcome to use them as well.

Who on earth cares?

October 18, 2007

I am Australian #9817 to put their hand up and say I care about protecting our environment at the Australian Conservation Foundation new website Who on earth cares?

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing Australians today. It’s up to all of us to act quickly and ensure we protect this wonderful country for our kids and their kids.

Who On Earth Cares is a new campaign bringing together Australians who want to see Australia reduce its spiralling levels of greenhouse pollution and avoid dangerous climate change. Who On Earth Cares shows what we are all doing in our lives to help the environment.

Put yourself on the map with 1000’s of other Australian’s who are saying I care. During the registration process, you will also be generated a letter that you can send to your local member of parliament to let them know what you are doing to reduce your greenhouse pollution and that you want greater leadership and real solutions to this issue.

So, Who on earth cares.. Do you?

Backup your precious memories and files

October 17, 2007

These days the humble home PC is much more than just for entertainment. It contains so much important data, family photos, work or study documents, music collections and much more.

Yet how many of us actually backup and safe keep our data on a regular basis? We put it off till later, but never seem to get around to it. You could lose it all in an instant, and usually without warning. What about all your photos if you haven’t backed them up!

CD/DVD’s

These are the most common method of backing up. They are cheap and easy, and can be a great way to safe keep your files, as long as you actually remember that is. If you take good care of the discs, and store them properly they can last up to 40yrs. Try to buy a good quality disc. Make sure that you check to make sure your files have been saved properly after you have burnt them.

While this is a good method of saving your important data, it isn’t going to protect your files in the unfortunate event of a fire, flood or theft. It’s a good idea to store copies of your important discs in another location.

External Hard drive

External hard drives are a handy tool to back up your files and make them portable. They are a little more expensive, and can suffer the same risks as your internal hard drive like virus or disk failure.

Online Backups

I have been trialing this method myself over the last few weeks. Even after multiple drive failures and data lose, I have yet to learn my lesson. I always mean to get around to it, but never do.

Mozy automatically backs up your files and stores them in a secure, remote location. Mozy has a free option for personal users which allows you to backup up to 2gig of data. Or for $4.95 a month you can backup unlimited data.

Using it is super easy. You download a small application to your computer (it works on Windows and is in Beta for Mac) and it will take care of it for you. Your able to select which folders and files you wish to back up or you can choose to save everything. The application sits in your toolbar and will detect and save any changes you make to your files. If you have a drive failure, or loose data restoring your files is just as easy.

This is a great option for those that are a little lazy and forgetful. You will need a high speed broadband connection.

Now, you have no excuse for loosing your important files. Get into the habit now for making regular backups. Remember not everything is 100% fool proof so it can be best to try a few options to back up your really important data like your family snaps.
