Raising a Business

October 4, 2007

Starting your own small business, and working from home are becoming more popular than ever with Women in particular these days.

Raising a Business, a woman’s no-nonsense guide to successfully growing a small business, is the much anticipated follow up book from Melbourne mum and author Sonia Williams. Her first book, Show Mummy the Money was a guide for people, not just Mums, on how to start their own small business and was a huge success.

Raising a Business follows on from that idea. The book is aimed at Women who are planning on starting, or those who have recently started their own small business. It is designed to teach Women how to successfully prepare their small business for growth and sustainability.

Sonia interviewed 20 successful business Women for the book. I really enjoyed the inspirational advice from great Australia business women through out the book such as Larissa Bright of Diva Cosmetics, Naomi Simons of RedBallon Days, Sue Whyte of Intimo and many more. The book is packed with their experienced advice and tips on starting and growing your own business.

Along with the wonderful advice in the book, when you purchase the book you can also gain access to private exercises and resources on Sonia’s website Show Mummy the Money.

Raising a Business is available now, RRP$29.95

The Ultimate Guide to Productivity

May 4, 2007

I have been tagged by Ponn for the ultimate guide to productivity meme. She actually tagged me 2 days ago a week ago, so that in itself is a very good indication of my wonderful productivity skills (or lack there of) and my world class procrastination.

I see Meg was also tagged, and her post rings very true for me and I identify with most of what she said. I am the queen of procrastination, so easily distracted, disorganised is an understatement, always putting things off and I also have the memory of a rock.. the list of my excuses could go on. All these things are something I would really like to work on and change in my on line and off line life. I really think they are holding me back.

I have none of my own tips to offer, nor would you want them. Instead I have many wonderful ideas I have come across this week from reading others.

  • Getting up earlier. I know this works for me, getting up at 5:30. What I get done in that 1 1/2hr before the kids wake up is probably more than I would in the rest of the day.
  • I came across this idea this morning, and I think it is fantastic, well part of it. I, and I bet many others have soo many feeds in your reader. Steve Pavlina says “Split your RSS feeds into two lists: those that help boost your productivity vs. those that taketh it away. Force yourself to unsubscribe from all the feeds in the second list. You won’t miss them” Like me, that may have made you gasp “Noooo I can’t delete them, that’s a bit harsh, I will miss them!” I think the splitting in 2 is a great idea, but instead of deleting the others, save them for later when you don’t need to be doing any work.
  • Read the rest of Steve’s 3 part series 33 rules to boost your productivity so many great tips and ideas there!
  • The Positivity Blog and their One simple way to reduce procrastination is also a great read.

Everyone has been tagged in the week it took me to reply, so anyone left who hasn’t been tagged…you are now.

Special Offer-The Secret to Self-Empowerment for Women

April 26, 2007

Did you see Top Sante’s survey published in the major daily newspapers recently? Of the 2,000 women surveyed less than 25% feel they are living the life they thought they would when they were younger. Sound familiar?

What’s worse is the staggering 84% that say they are not fulfilling their potential. Further, the overwhelming majority of them feel underpaid, overworked, sexually frustrated and disillusioned!

“I was consumed with self doubt in many areas of my life. This also affected relationships with family, friends and slowed down my progress professionally.” Danni, Director of Lumiere Make-Up Melbourne, Australia

The chairwoman of Saatchi & Saatchi, Sandra Yates, said: “If there’s one thing this report finally does, it puts the nail in that old myth that time will fix the problem. If we ever bought that old pup, we should abandon it as it is clearly not true.”

If you are a ……

  • small business owner
  • young (or young at heart) professional or executive
  • therapist/nurse or carer
  • stay at home mum
  • teacher/educator
  • trainer
  • student

You have probably at sometime in your life been held back by baggage from the past and/or limiting beliefs you have made about yourself.

How many times have you heard yourself saying any of the following?

“I can’t do that”
“I’m not worthy”
“I’m not good enough”
“I’m no good at Sales”
“I don’t deserve what I really want”
“Money doesn’t come easily”
“I’m not a good mum”
“I’m not a good wife”
“I’m not attractive enough”
“I’m not slim enough”

Probably more than you care to remember!
