I know that this is an often asked question but who here has lost weight successfully and how??

I have my sister's wedding in the start of June and I need to drop a couple of dress sizes, I actually don't know what size I am these days (differs to each clothes stores - how annoying) but most likely a 14 and bordering over. Have never been this size my entire life, but have always been around the 12 mark. Would love to know how to stick to a diet. I have been writing a journal these past few days of what I am eating exactly to see how bad I am at pigging out. I haven't done too badly, as said in another thread I hadn't eaten chocolate in 4 days so that is a biggie for me. I also find it difficult that my OH does not eat ANYTHING healthy. He does not eat vegies, fruit, low fat foods and this makes shopping rather difficult... Any suggestions?

Also, is canned fruit bad for you? If I buy fruit I have to keep buying it every few days (only eater of it here) so I thought of buying the canned ones or Golbourn Valley tubs.

P.S. I have done Weight Watchers (unofficially - without going to the meetings, just borrowed the points book) and lost a fair bit of weight a few years ago. However, when I was starving or after exercise I use to get these weird dizzy spells, and felt like my head would explode and couldn't breathe. Has anyone experienced this? I was 20 at the time of doing it so age shouldn't be a problem here...

Sorry this post is long!!

My husband lost 7 kilos in 6 weeks by just not eating any bread, pasta, potatoes or rice.

He's eat chocolate, cashews and stuff like that but just not those 4 things.

He then went back to eatinig them and sure enough he started putting weight back on so he stopped again and he lost what he had gained.

Maybe there are some foods that your body doesn;t like??

My OH had tried everything else and for him this worked.

Good luck

Thanks Gail! I still have no idea where to start but have been doing this diary and I think my gluttony must stop soon...

Someone else suggested to me about a 'beta test'. I think that is what it was called... basically to see if you have any allergies to food. I need to find one in Brissie tho.

I might start ripping off some of the recipes from Lite N Easy this week. They are simple and cheap by the looks....

There is a diet that I am interested in hearing more about (but don't think I could do myself). It's about eating right for your blood type, it has something or rather to do with metabolism.

I found a link:

http://www.acu-cell.com/btd.html

There are very mixed reviews about it.

Hi Monty,

I am in the process of trying to lose weight. And I would highly recommend the "Symply too good to be true" low fat cookbooks. You can buy them at most newsagents or on her website.

http://www.symplytoogood.com.au/pages/default.cfm?page_id=24274

I have all 4 of the books and they are GREAT!! The meals really cater for fussy eaters and the whole family. Everything I have cooked from them so far...all my family have loved. Even my 5 year old son. ;)

With cooking from these books and some exercise, I am losing weight...and I'm totally thrilled. It's not really a diet, just a low fat way of eating for life. I threw all of my other cookbooks out and I'm just using these now.

I am also making sure I do lots of different types of exercise, so that I don't get bored with it.

Good luck,

Hi Lav_angel

Thanks for the website, I have never heard of these cookbooks before (but then again I'm a novice when it comes to cooking)! I will have to go a newsagent and check the books out. Some of the tips on the website are very good.

When I read the fat contents of some of my (previously) favourite foods, I try and remember how much fat is in them so everytime I have a craving I think TOO MUCH FAT!!

For instance:

THE FAT COUNT OF SOME TAKEAWAY FAVOURITES:-
HOT DOG = 18g fat
CHIKO ROLL - = 17g fat
SMALL BUCKET OF CHIPS = 23g
MEAT PIE= 24 g fat
SAUSAGE ROLL= 28g
DONOR KEBAB= 26g

And this:

¼ SERVE OF BBQ CHICKEN WITH SKIN AND STUFFING EQUALS 21g FAT.
But without stuffing or skin it is only 7g. This really shows why it is so important to not eat the skin. Yes, I know it’s hard to resist but come on… Look at the difference in fats - huge!!

That freaked me out as a quater of chicken is a wing or a drumstick (part of my job is cooking chickens). When I'm at work I know how much fat must be in our BBQ chickens but never really thought it was that much :faint:
