View Full Version : Cpr
Have you been trained or taken a course in CPR? Have you ever had to do CPR?
I always worry that should I be in that situation I'd freeze or panic and forget how!

I took a course on CPR when I was 16, so I could get babysitting jobs easier. Of course, I'm almost 28 now so that was a long time ago. Luckily, so far I haven't had to use it.

I did a CPR course at uni so it's out of date now but I just did the St John's course for parents and people who work with young kids, which covers the CPR stuff again. I've never had to use it but now that I've done it I think I worry more about what might go wrong. I hope I never need to use it.

I had to do a CPR course when I applied to be an Ambo. Needless to say, I didnt get the job, but went far in the process that led up to it. What didnt get me in was the bloody selection criteria that I went thru with an employment consultant.....they said that it wasnt detailed enough!!
Anyway, have never been in a situation where I need to use it, and I, too, fear that I may freeze up!!

yes i have done a full first aid course, oudated now (did it 99 lasts 3 yrs) i had previously (early h/school) learnt CPR as i went to a coastal school for a short time. i really need to do a re-fresher course, as i thought last time i knew it still but the were some aspects i had forgotten (not CPR other first aid stuff) ...plus they do tend to change the ways they "treat" things.
I did a couple of first aid courses when I was going through school and TAFE and all that. I never thought I'd need to use it and was really worried about forgetting stuff if I ever was confronted with a situation like that.
But when it came to the crunch and I witnessed an accident, it was like clockwork. Afterwards I don't know how I got through it all, even while I was doing it it all seemed kind of 'far away'. I don't know if that makes sense but it was like I was running on Autopilot.
Now that was years and years ago, maybe I should do another course.

I'm the same. I have been trained in CPR but have always been too afraid that I would have a stage fright when I need to do it...
Luckily L is a St John's volunteer so we get to see him in practice alot, which makes me think perhaps it wont be so bad. But even the St John volunteers hardly come in such situations either.. Although they have a mouth piece provided by St John which is a lot more safer than direct CPR.
