Chooks

I would love and have always wanted to have chooks, but with Potter (BC x) I don't think that would be a good idea LOL

Do many people have their own chooks these days? I think if your block is a certain size you can still have chooks?

I think that you would have to check with your local council about the size of the yard, but I do know that you cant have roosters on residential properties, coz they annoy the bejeebers outta the neighbours!! The chooks cant 'free range' they have to be penned, too.

Pam, I am supposed to be getting my chookies this weekend!! 6 pullets (sp) on the point of lay! I have a chook pen already, and a run that goes into the paddock, so once they are used to their hen house, I can let them out to free range. :) I will have to watch Max, but I have been told that BC's tend to "round them up" which could possibly be a bonus!!! ;)

I will take pics when I get them. I can't wait!!

Gloria, I have a friend in Oz who is like you! She calls it a feather-fear, as she is terrified of anything with feathers!! lol. When her husband is away she has to feed the chooks and collect the eggs!! She would ring a friend to go over and do it for her as she was too scared. :)

Ohh Anne You are sooooo lucky! How exciting to get chookies! You'll have to name them all you know!

My sisters BC used to round up her chooks - never hurt them.. just trott around herding them :)

Whaaaaa ...I want some chooks

We have four chooks, 3 rhode island reds and one plain old black one (chicken little) our dogs have grown up with them and they don't even take any notice of them, they just roam around all day and are locked up each night. When the cats are lying out in the sun a chook will come along and walk right over the top. I will try and get a pic for you tomorrow :)

Yep, we need some chooks pic's ;) I am thinking of painting a nice big chook for my kitchen wall - maybe one of your chooks can be my model :D
