How do you store them, and how long do you keep them for?
I have always wondered ( I actually used to work in a Delicatessen, I don't know if I knew this information at one time LMAO ) Never bothered to ask the people at woolies, half look like they wouldn't know what day of the week it is
I buy on a Thursday night, I'll usually leave it in the bag it came in. Saturday is probably the last day I would use it. Hardly seems worth the while buying it LOL

Ergh, makes me think about Gloria's runny-nosed deli-boy - wouldn't matter how you stored that deli meat, yuck.
At the moment I buy ham from the supermarket (love Hans brand, it just tastes better than the others) and I store it in the container it comes in. I went to a Tupperware party a while ago and the demonstrator was talking about it (Tupperware, not surprisingly has a container for this specific purpose). She said you need to take it out of the paper/plastic, lay it flat in the container and let it all get to the same temperature (I think??) before you put the lid on and put it in the fridge. Apparently that stops it from going slimy as quickly. But then, she also said that Tupperware is the only PVC-free plastic in Australia and I KNOW that's not true so who knows if she has any idea about meat storage!!
(Oh, and I would keep the ham for about 3 days, maybe 4 ... but it generally doesn't last any longer than that anyway).

I try and use it the day I buy it or the next day at the latest. I really don't like the thought of it after that.

I only ever buy it occassionally. We usually use it up straight away :) Any leftover is kept in the fridge and used shortly after.

We buy a bigger batch and then freeze some. It comes out fine. We just put it into smaller batches and then take it out as we need it. When I was a single mum and not very talented in the kitchen, all the old meat (but not too manky) went into a pasta bake - very yummy!!
My friend buys the big sausage-like ham already sliced and just puts it all in a container. She puts paper towel in the bottem before she puts the ham in and it lasts at least a f/night. I have tasted this meat after that long and it is still ok!! I dont know why - I can NEVER get that to work.

I didn't realise you could freeze it, that would be handy.
I thought maybe I was being wasteful only using it really the day after I bought it, but seems thats what most people do. Makes you wonder tho, those rolls they use (not really at woolies, but smaller delis) Hang around for quite awhile before they are all used.
And the slime, on frankfurts, they would just get a bath everyday till they were sold...no slime! LOL

okay ... no more frankfurts for me! blerck.
Are you serious? They just give the franks a wash and put them back out for sale? :O
OMG I'll stick to the packet meats (I do usually anyway, rarely buying from the deli section). They come in their own handy little resealable boxes anyway.

I always ask for slices of meat from the bottom, and store it in glad wrap.. usually use it all in 2 days, then buy more.

yep order meat from the bottom and use it with 3 days.
Hi use to work in a deli you should store it in an air tight container and use bake paper to sit it on, storeing it in a plastic bag makes it sweat and it goes off quicker if it sweats. It is recommended that you only keep for a day or so bacause you dont know when it was cut or shaved. Your best bet is to ask them to cut it fresh for you, that way you know. Any other questions I would be happy to answer :D
