My kids always have hounded me to put the presents under the tree before Xmas, I never have, when I was a kid the tree went up about a fortnight before Xmas and it was exciting but it was nothing compared to that magical feeling waking up on Xmas morning and seeing the tree with all the beautiful wrapped presents under it, I felt it would spoil the moment if they got used to seeing them there and also they would poke and prod them by the time Xmas came they would work out what they had, but now that they are adults and only one living at home (not for much longer either ;() I may as well put them under tonight, can't help feeling that is the end of the magic though, and whats more I don't give a dam how old they are and If they like it or not they are still getting a stocking at the end of their bed :hehe:

I wait until christmas eve, late at night (well we still have young kids). How ever we do have a few things under the tree, a little present the twins made at pre-school, they still havent told us whats in it, and I havent peeked!
I too think that if all the pressies are out under the tree early, there is no magic to wake up too christmas morning.

Good for you.....letting go of past traditions sometimes causes a little heartache.
My family always placed gifts under the tree, then on Christmas morning we awoke to find that Santa had left his goodies under the mantle piece.
This year, because of Lewis and his penchant for the destruction of anything, shiny, glittery, or expensive, the tree is not going up, But the TT's stocking will adorn the mantle piece as per usual.

My kids (mainly my eldest) nag me to get a early Christmas present, but that doesn't happen, they have to wait until Christmas morning when Santa has been.
Unfortunately Christmas morning came to quickly last Christmas as my son appeared in our room at 2:40am screaming, we have present under the tree.
He was told to go back to bed, they will still be there in the morning LMAO
Suprisi9ngly he did go back to bed without complaining. May have had something to do with a stocking packed full that had been left on his bed?????

We put the presents that we wrap for the family under the tree as soon as they get wrapped. That way Kieren helps witht he wrapping and giving part of Christmas.
Then Santa brings the rest, which is for Chris, Kieren and myself.

I wait until the kids are usleep on chrissie eve. Rosie is still to young she will rip them open. As kids we would only put out the ones we bought for each other. Santa did the rest.

I don't remember presents under a tree as we were growing up and only remember 1 particular tree that my sister and I 'stole' from a neighbours yard.. Was a branch of a gum tree that had fallen and we hauled the damn thing all the way home LMAO, it looked pretty good from what I remember :P
These days I always put presents for everyone but my son under the tree, his go under once he's asleep on Christmas Eve.

I wait til xmas eve but thats cause I wouldnt trust these boys not to touch them, so xmas eve once they are asleep everything comes out.
But when I was growing up things would get placed under the tree as mum got them, except ones from Santa, then when I stopped believeing in Santa they were all out, I dont remember ever opening them but I think I tried guessing them :hehe:

I usually don't have them wrapped before Christmas Eve, let alone under the tree. I finished it all up today tho.
We have little pretend present decorations on the tree and someone has tried to open them  so they certainly can't be trusted with any real presents.

Well I always put the tree up on the 1st December and all the pressies go underneath it then.
OHHHHHH I hear you all now..........groan.
But the reason why I started was when my 1st child was about 3 he said not to stress about christmas so much cause santa would bring all the presents. Well we were having a rough time of it at the time and it was financially hard to buy alot so it got me thinking about santa's role in my family. So I started telling the kids from that day forward that the presents under the tree are brought by mum and dad and that they cost MONEY and the little things in the santa sack at the end of there beds were given to them by santa (usually a few cheap trinkets), cause santa had to buy or make presents for all the kids in the world so it had to be cheap. I have done that for the last 17 years and hope that my kids do it for there kids cause each christmas my kids really appreciate the thought that goes into the presents that I pick out for each of them.

I have a question, what is at the end of the bed? The kids stockings?
Is that an Aussie tradition? Because I think I read something like that in another post.

I've always put the presents under the tree once Kiarna has gone to bed on Christmas Eve. She asked this year could she have a Santa sack on her bed just in case Santa left some presents in her room - so cute:)

I think it is always nice to hold a few back - that way there is still a bit of a special feeling on Christmas morning.
I have all the Christmas presents on our Christmas couch - no tree this year - as my daughter is still too young to associate Christmas with anything but next year will be a different story as she will be almost 3.

I have always put them under the tree. This year no tree so they are in a corner. No fancy ribbons either because of the kittens.
This will also be our first year (hopefully only) of opening presents on xmas eve. We have a plane ride on xmas day and only have time for Santa.
My grandmas b-day was x-mas eve so we always made it a point for it to be her day.

Gina,
A santa sack is usually a brightly coloured pillowcase or a specially decorated pillow case sized sack that lays or is attached to the end of a bed.
I think it may have started in Australia because it is sooooo damn hot here at christmas time so the concept of putting a stocking on the mantle (that is if you have one, we don't in sunny queensland) is kind of redundant.

Gosh, I put everything out on christmas eve. If I was to put any presents
under the tree before that, my kids will have guessed them all. They are
32,30 and 26. They will grow up I guess. Even though we age, the magic
of our childhood prevails.

No Di, Not any more.
Although I don't know what happens in their own homes.
They are all here at about 8.00am to give and open presents though.
And, look out if you don't wait for them all to get here, started without
my youngest couple two years ago, and still haven't heard the end of it.
LMAO
My DH already has the Turkey on cooking by 6.30. We get size 70.
And it all go from there....:y:

Growing up the wrapped presents from mom and dad and the rest of the family would go under the tree and then presents from santa would be added on christmas eve...also stockings would be hung and empty but then full on christmas morning. since we dont' have kids yet and matt and i are spending xmas out here alone again, all of our presents are wrapped under the tree already! :)
