I was wondering in any of you would use recycled water.
I mean like treated water, either desalinisation or the treated sewerage water.
I watched with interest the news reports on Toowoomba and their water problems and was disgusted that some of the locals would rather have no water than have perfectly good treated water pumped into their dams to help levels.
I mean, would you really notice the difference considering that the recycled water is being mixed with the dam water, and the dam water is probably full of more dirt, bacteria and cow poo than the recycled stuff.

I think the problem with this issue is the complete lack of education and that is why so many people are against it. I agree that the recycled water would be so much cleaner than what people are getting now and I would prefer it. Personally I won't even drink tap water at the moment - some days it comes out brown and others you can actually smell the chemicals in it - why would I drink that?

a radio station here did a test.. there was a person given three glasses of water, one recycled, one tap and one evian (or similar) and he guessed them all wrong, and said the recycled one was actually the cleanest one and tasted best. I think its the actual thought of the whole thing that does sound a little ewwww.. but what about rain... doesnt the stuff at the sewage farms evaporate anyway and mix in with "normal" water anyway.

Evian is naive spelt backwards.LMAO Truly I drink tap water, no filter, no nothing and I am still here. Have been doing it for years. Recycled would not bother me.

I would drink recycled water but I would use a filter which I use now anyway.

i would drink it in a heartbeat. In fact if you live in the real country (really miles away from anywhere) you probably have to drink it cause your tank water etc has to be boiled and purified doesn't it.
I can't beleive toowoomba decided against it. DAMN FOOLS.

We definately need more education concerning treated/recycled water, to bring people out of their :eww: stand.
Heavens above........it can't be that bad, and what is worse..........dehydration?
Perhaps the only way to bring this to the notice of some people is to charge thousands of dollars per household if imported water is requested in lieu.

Hey, it is water, what more do we need.

When you think about how many people drink rain water that comes down the drain pipes on the roof that are full of bird poo (UGH), surely treated recycled water would have to win hands down

we are now going onto level 3 restrictions here and i just wish this town would consider something like that. Each year when the country music festival is on we get this huge influx of people, and down go the dam levels.
I say, filter/clean the sewerage water, pump it into the dams and lets get the levels back up.

suzie are you in tamworth ??????

WE here are on Level 4 water restrictions.. the only problem I have with drinking recycled water is that though they can take out most of the chemicals and bacteria and stuff.. I dont believe they can remove hormones from the water.. therefore in theory if a woman is on HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) she goes to the loo and wees.. she excretes some of those artifical hormones.. I know the levels would be very low.. but that may still pose a barrier.. possibly even more of a risk for pregnant women.. ie extra female hormones to a male fetus... (just thinking about things.. long term as the concentration would get higher with every recycled cyle.. or even people with Hypothyroidism who take Thyroid Replacement medications.. then that hormone also being released into recycled water.

I think that recycled water should be available to the population for things such as washing clothes.. showering .. watering gardens etc.. and maybe have it bought to your house.. like gas bottles etc.. but drinking water should be kept just drinking water until they can test to see if hormones can be removed from the supply.. like I said just thinking..

We have been on Level 4 restrictions since the end of September and it is likely we will be at level 5 shortly after Christmas. I wish they would give us recycled water, we so desperately need it.

For those that don't know, Central Coast NSW where I live is a mass of waterways, yet our dams are dangerously low, we are also a huge tourist destination an hour or so north of Sydney and we are worried that so much of our water is going to get wasted with holiday makers not used to our restrictions.

For those that are worried about hormones etc, I agree with your concerns but how about the crap like that they are allready pumping into our food (not to mention the animal products).

^^^ I agree Mel that hormones in food is also cause for concern.. along with GE foods.. The difference however, is that most people are aware of hormones in food and GE foods and can make a decision not to eat it.. alot of people dont know about the hormones in recycled water .. and since we need to drink water dont really have that same choice..
