I was sitting at the computer about 45 mins ago when I received a phone call from my neighbor telling me that the power pole out the front of my house was on fire and that I should get out of the house straight away just in case the sparks hit the house and it caught fire. So I grabbed the kids out of bed and hubby and off we ran to her house across the road. She had already called the fire brigade and they arrived about 5 mins later. They blocked off the road and called Energex out, they are still out there now fixing the problem. But gee she gave me a scare but I'm thankful that she saw it and alerted us. Have you had any scares with fire?

How lucky for you that your neighbour saw it Sonnie. Iam glad it is all ok.:) Two fire incidents I can recall. First one is my eldest asking me if she could cook some crumpets in the toaster. Having only taught her recently how to use it she was making the most of it. Anyway cut a long story short she set fire to toaster as for some reason when she was asking me if could she cook crumpets, she was talking about rice cakes:D :D :D LMAO No major damage there.
Second time I was woken early one morning by someone banging on the neighbours door, and went out too abuse 'said' person and they informed me neighbours house was on fire. It was pretty scary, we rang firies, no one was in house, they had gone to work. We ended up with the street out there and our hose going to try put it out till fireman got there. That was actually a really horrible thing to see and actually made me cry. I did not know neighbours that well but all I could think was of everything they had lost. The house ended up gutted.
I really am glad you and your family are safe and there was no harm done. Fires are pretty freaky and it makes you stop and think about the people going through bushfires at the moment.Very sad.Well I will stop babbling now.

wow how scary, glad you are ok Sonnie
OMG Sonnie! Thank goodness your neighbour was pretty observant and that you are all ok!
We've only had one major fire alert, thank goodness.
It was about 6 months after we bought our first home. My brother, his wife and their kids were visiting for Christmas and were staying with us at the time. We'd all gone to bed and were snoring our heads off, when I awoke to the sound of our new little 2 month old silky terrier puppy barking his little head off. Being half asleep and my faculties not working properly, I thought I heard like a crackling noise which seemed to be coming from the lounge room, so I got up and went out to have a look.........OMG!
The whole lounge room was on fire, there were flames everywhere! I ran like hell screaming for everyone to wake up. I tell you, you've never seen so many adults and kids wake up in such a hurry! The first thing was to get the kids out and my DH and brother tried vigorously to put out the fire. Luckily, our next door neighbours had been woken with all the screaming, and had phoned for the fire brigade and also came over to help extinguish the fire. We finally got it out, DH had burns all over his shoulders where my lace curtains had melted from the fire and fallen onto him. He was the only one with any burns.
About 10 mins after we put the fire out, the fire brigade turned up....bit late!
They checked the house out and informed us that if the fire hadn't been put out when it had, we would have lost the whole house instead of just the lounge/dining room, because it had just started to go into the roof.
My DH gave them a bit of a mouthful at that stage, seeing it took them so long to get there, when they are only 5 mins away!
Anyway, turns out the previous owners had wired the fuse box with ordinary copper wire instead of fuse wire (which is thinner) allowing more current through and causes things the short and burn, which is what made a night lamp short and the sparks caused the curtains to catch fire.
The hero of this saga, was our beautiful little pup, Benji. He literally saved our lives!

Wow Sandydee you were lucky. I have done that quite a few times but luckily I hadn't gone out and had noticed the heat coming from the stove or oven.

Wow, I'm glad that you guys are okay. I have never personally had anything like that happen to me but I watched my neighbors apartment building burn down and a friend of mine lost her apartment too. It's a horrible feeling in your gut. Thank God you guys are okay!!!

You're lucky that your neighbours have your phone number to call you and tell you of the problem. Our neighbours don't even know our names. LMAO
