It's MIL 50th next week, and I have no idea what we are going to get her :(

I was thinking $100 in her paypal account, I got her hooked on eBay  and she likes to collect brooches.

Do you think money/vouchers are a cop out present?

I have no idea what else to buy, any ideas?

I'm all for the gift voucher (or money in the PayPal account).

I have had too many years of 'special' presents from someone in my family (yes, I realise how selfish this sounds but to be honest, she leaves the bargain basement sales tags on the gift - which would be fine if it was something I could use but a baby pink wrap-around shirt in shiny satin several sizes to small for me - for example - is just a waste of money, even at $3. I'd rather she kept the money, or even just phoned and said 'happy birthday').

Also, I am a terrible present chooser and I would rather give someone a voucher that they could then use to get something they want. Unless I have inspiration, I usually go for a voucher.

Um, I'm a bit of a gift voucher person too. I have my MIL birthday coming up as well. As they live in another town, I usually sned money to FIL to buy some flowers and fave choc for her. And send a card in the mail with gift voucher from her grandcats.

I am NOT the person to be answering this as the only thing i want to give my MIL is a lovely lead bullet or a one way ticket to antarctica!!! :D

I think gift vouchers or money are fine, or in my family photos are always good, but then we are all spread out over the country so they are very much appreciated!

Money or vouchers make a great gift for the person who has everything! I'm encouraging my family to get DH Target vouchers for his birthday next week so he can get himself some new clothes!

I think vouchers are underrated! i love getting them, cos at least you know it'll be something you'll definitely use! And the fact that you are helping her do something she loves -shopping on eBay- means you really have thought about her gift! :)
