I've got a job interview this Monday for a job that I applied for. In the advertisement it stated that the salary was $**,000 + OTE

What does OTE mean? I've tried Google but I've found two completely different definitions!

Please don't quote me, but it could mean On Target Earnings..............ie a guaranteed commission of X$ when your sales target is reached.

I've found two definitions. One being On Target Earnings (commission based) and the other being Ordinary Time Earnings. I'm sooo confused. I'm trying to avoid having to ask them tomorrow for fear I'll look like an idiot!

My first guess was Over Time Extra. I was thinking maybe they will pay you for overtime. I would ask them at the interview.

What is the role? If it's in a retail or sales capacity then it would mean commission and because it has the + OTC it means earnings on top of your salary.

Good luck with the interview :D

Yes it would be On Target Earnings - or a bonus if the whole department or section does well etc. My experience as a recruitment consultant does come in handy sometimes. Good luck.

I'm sorry, but I just have to ask. Why is your name SmallNads? It may just be that my mind is in the gutter and I'm seeing the rude side of it, but I just thought I'd ask. If your name is something like Nadine or that, then thats OK, but I just read your name and saw the rude side of it. Sorry.

LMAO What are you talking about? I don't see anything rude with the name SmallNads has chosen for herself.

I hope everything with the interview turns out well for you.:)

Melz - I get that all the time! My name is Nadia and my nickname is Nads. I'm short so hence the SmallNads!

I had the interview this morning. I found out that it's commission based work. I have to wait to see if I get called back for a second interview.

If you're soley on commission does that mean that you don't get sick pay, holiday pay etc? That would suck!

Yep, no sick pay or holiday pay. But you can earn more than an average weekly salary if your good at what your doing, and most commission based pays also have monthly bonuses. Good luck with it.:)

Nadia....best of luck, please let us know how you went on.

Melz....yes I have to admit I was wondering.....especially as in the recent past there have been some "curious" newbies with questionable ideas. When Nadia mentioned being a hairdresser, well.......?

Laura....nads are short for gonads (testes).

Heather - I DID used to work in a hairdressers - not as a hairdresser though but I did pick up some handy tips :)

Well i had a full day of work yesterday (observation day) which is the 2nd part of the interview process. It went quite well and I was excited that they asked me back for the 6 days trial (starting Monday). A final decision will be made then.

It sounds quite good. I've got an ABN number already (something they require) so that's not a problem. I basically sub-contract to them. That suits me fine as I can write a lot of things off before tax. Once I reach a certain level of training (usually in 12mths times) they will help me set up a company.

Sounds good but I'll see how the 6 day trial goes.

I have to be positive if I want to go somewhere with it. I'm only 24 so I'm too young to sit rotting in my current job. That's what I tell myself anyway...

You should be proud of your determination.
