A plan for zero tolerance for P-plate drivers caught breaking road rules has been welcomed as overdue by some NEWS.com.au readers, but others have dismissed it as knee-jerk scapegoating.

Sonnie.......yes, but how do you enforce it. There are unlicensed drivers everywhere, it does not matter what colour their license is.
I would be the first to admit that I am not the best driver....I have failed to indicate, I have driven over the speed limit and many more little infractions I'm sure. There is no such person as a perfect driver.......they have just not been caught out by police. I believe that our very nature prohibits us from being 100% focused on the road anyway.
Again I say.......more and earlier driver education, more advanced driving lessons, limiting passengers, possible curfews are some plans that should be implemented.
Last thing.....why should the majority of P Platers (and many are not teenagers) be made to pay for the actions of a minority.

I suppose I'm more for the zero tolerance when it comes to people who are way over the speed limit and it's pretty obvious that they know what they are doing. If you are more than 10km over the speed limit surely the driver must realize what they are doing. So I should have been more specific with my comment. But apart from that yes I do agree with everything else you said, Heather.
