Hey ladies,
Just wondering if there are any ladies on AFW that are from Canberra? I have lived here since May last year and I still don't have any friends here. I have my Stew, but no girlfriends and I get so lonely all the time and I was just wondering if someone wanted to catch up for a coffee or something?

Oh Melz.....how come you have been in Canberra for nearly eight months and not have friends?
I know it can take some people a long time to feel comfortable with new people........but honestly you don't seem like that at all. You have been so active within our community.........you have a sense of humour and I for one have quite enjoyed some of your posts.
If at the moment you only have Stew to talk to, then do just that. Tell him how lonely you are. He would have colleagues that he could introduce you to and it follows on from there.
Hope something comes up soon for you.

Hi Mel,
Why don't you join a Tennis club or Something else you might like.
Maybe the gym?
Well that may not be for you ... but it's just a sugestion. You don't have to
be good at a sport to have lots of fun and meet new people.
If all else fails...you've got us :>:

Melz, funny you should mention that...I was considering being a Canberrian end of last year. I saw a job with DEH and I was really tempted to apply for it. But then it got put in the too hard basket...what to do with the house...what about Master Mojo because I certainly couldn't afford to build another cat park for him and of course I won't go anywhere without my dearest so there was job prospects for him that I had to consider as well. But the biggest thing that bothered me was that I would know no one. I do sympathise with you because other than my best chum from high school and another girl I met doing a uni course down here (who has now migrated to Melbourne :(), I don't have any gal pals either really. And I've been living here for around five years now. There's the girls at work of course but because they all live in Ipswich and I live in Logan, we don't really socialise outside of work as much as what we would like. But I've always been a bit of a loner so it doesn't bother me so much.

I haven't found any friends because I don't go out and do anything, but I don't go out and do anything because I dont have anyone to do it with, so its kind of like a catch 22 I think.
I did have friends down here, but my old housemate spread rumours about things I"d apparently said that I didn't and they believed him and wont talk to me anymore. I play basketball, but haven't started up down here yet, because I want to get back to the fitness level I was at when I used to play, so I don't look like a goose on the court lol.
Stormy, moving from Brisbane to Canberra was the best move I've ever made and the no friends thing is the only part of Canberra that I'm not liking.

Well it's time you got off your butt and did something....bugger the fitness, go and join a basketball group.
Go for a regular walk...if you have the same route, then people will recognise you and smile....and that's the start.
If you have any "also at home" neighbours, invite them over for a cuppa.
Really, if you want something to happen then it is up to you to make it so. Stop waiting for everyone else to do it for you.
I would love to meet up with you if I lived in Canberra.
Me and Dh have talked about moving there a few times, I love it there.. I've spoken to you about it msn about it, so maybe theres a chance we will finally make the move..
I had change though so we'll see if I can get the courage to come

When I moved to Perth, I didn't know a soul and had to wait for 3 months for my husband to come over, I went to a local church and meet people there, and I did some volunteer work, have you thought of doing that? I did Meals on Wheels, and I still have friends 10 years later that I met.
The Red Cross, The Salvation Army, I am sure have volunteer programs that you could ring up and join...
You have a spirit and I am sure one that people would like to know.

Hi MissMelz, I am in a rural area just out of Canberra. I go in to town once a week or so, I'd be happy to meet up with you for a cuppa. With school hols I am going in a bit less. I have a few cousins in town a bit closer to your age, I might tell them to all get on here & say hi too.
How are you liking this weather? The new years storm was mad.
