What a terrible tragedy :(
I hate hearing about innocent little children being killed like that. The father would have to be seriously unstable to commit such a crime.
So sad! ;(

I'm reading two different stories there. Was the husband dead when she returned from shopping or not? Whatever the case that poor women has had a terrible loss.

This tragedy has made me angry and not for the obvious reasons.
I feel that if learning our language was made a part of the immigration process then there is the possibility that it may not have happened.
This family had been in Australia for 10 years and yet the mother was unable to talk wthout a translator. That being the case.......it seems reasonable to suggest that the woman had no contact unless it was with other Muslim families and friends. Had she been able to communicate in English, then she may have been able to, or felt confident enough to say something about her family life to others outside the faith.
I don't think the authorities are ever going to get the full story.
Unfortunately, we.........ordinary Australians and the authorities.......do not know enough of the faith, often forming opinions with half truths.
Wish that all people would open up and invite us to share their heritage and traditions.
Unfortunately I dont think race had much to do with this sad story. I know personally of three families where this has happened in the past 5 years. All were 5th or 6th generation white Australians.
And one of my friends (well I knew her but I was closer to her father) who had it happen to her about 12 years ago (her husband shot her kids and her and then himself, intentionally shooting her in the knee so she had to lay there with her deceased kids unable to get to a phone. She now runs a victim support service) said last night that this is the first occurance in perth by a middle eastern man.
When a man - irrespective of race/age etc - decides to commit this selfish vile act - they just go ahead and do it. Why they feel the need to take children with them is utterly beyond me.
The lady that lost her family this week did speak english - her Australian neighbours were describing conversations with her on tonights news. The first they noticed any sort of "trouble" was when they offered to deliver her some furniture and she cut them off and said she couldnt talk anymore. They thought that was an unusual reaction for her.
I do see the points you are making tho. The kind of support network she would have had in her "community" would likely have been the kind that reminded her the man was the ruler of the house and not to speak up. If she spoke good or better english she might have been inclined to ring a support service for help.

Thanks.........yes that is what I was saying.........in my usual soapbox way.
Perhaps it was the "If I can't have it, then neither shall you" type of emotion/thinking (?) that came into play for this and the other tragedies you wrote of.

hehehe dont worry I too am a bit of a soapboxer !!
Yes thats the only thing that I think it could be you know - there could be no other reason for not just killing yourself but taking your children with you.
