YAY...
I was quite tempted the sign the note, saying our reglious belief prevent us from celebrating easter, But Jake wouldn't let me..damn it!
So now I am stuck trying to make an Easter hat, oh joy.
Anyone have any ideas, or theirs to show off? I have a picture of last years ( that had to be thrown out because the cats kept eating the cotton wool ) But the cd won't load on my puter.
Anyway, help/ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. As you can tell, I am such a festive person LOL.

They still do Easter Hat parades?? I wish I'd known that before having a baby
How original/creative do you need to be?
From memory, there are always a bunch of rabbits (cardboard rabbit ears on a head band, with cottonwool stuck on the cardboard to make them furry). I went to school in the country so there were always a few 'bushie' hats - like acubras, with easter eggs hanging off the brim instead of corks. There was one boy who wore a paper mache hot cross bun on his head EVERY year. The first few times I thought it was kind of cool, but after that it was probably time for a new hat ... (sorry, got lost in nostalgia for a moment). Wow, I really suck at this, I hope they've phased out hat parades by the time poor Hugo gets to school age, he's got no hope.
Anyway, I hope someone comes up with a decent suggestion.
Naomi (who will never be the kind of mum who makes great hats for hat parades)

Be afraid Naomi, very afraid! LOL
Sad thing is, there is a good chance it won't be around in a few years when Hugo is at school. Easter I can do with out, and this year we will be, as Katelyn's birthday is Easter sunday, so will be a good excuse to pretty much ditch it and start a trend for next year.
Easter also sucks, as Hayden wrecked a school shirt yesterday, grey paint all over it. "But I was painting a Bunny Mum" x(
I wish I could get this picture, I think my effort last year was pretty darn good LMAO It was a top hat sort of thing, with ears on top, with eyes and teeth, covered with a shitload of cotton wool. I guess for a girl, it will be a bit easier, I can go ribbons and frilly stuff.
No doubt I will be up all hours the night before, doing it all myself like last time

Alex its definitely easier to do hats for girls. When my eldest daughter was in kindy I forgot all about it & when i dropped her off at school everyone had their hats there, so I raced home got a clean black plastic pot ( that was big enuf to sit on her head upside down) painted some flowers on it with glitter paints and made some flowers out of crepe paper and pipe cleaners, she thought it was great.
Most years I have cut a bonnet shape out of cardboard and the kids make their own designs on it with coloured crepe paper cut into little squares ,scrunched up and then glued on.
Last year when Jack was in kindy he just wanted the bunny ears covered in coloured cotton balls.
One of the themes for our hat parade is fav TV show- this is a good one for boys - make a tv using a box with holes cut out so they can see and put a picture of fav tv character on there ( Bart Simpson is really popular).
OR make a cone shape hat out of cardboard and stick on cotton wool balls, egg wrappers, shiny or glittery paper pieices or anything else you can find around the house.
The old swagmans hat is popular too with Easter Eggs hanging off instead of corks ( i think someone might have already mentioned this one).
Another theme we have is recycled- get an old hat and hang off some old ( clean :Hehe: ) milk cartons, soft drink bottles, food packaging, newspaper etc.
If your school have any themes Alex let us know and I'll put my thinking cap on.
Sorry this is very long :waves:

Oh god, you have lots of hat parades, just not Easter? You poor thing LOL. I don't think I would mind so much something like that, easter just annoys me.
Yes, hopefully I shall not have as much trouble this time being a girl. And maybe if I didn't leave it till the day before LOL, there was nothing left by the time I went to the shop to buy supplies.
Here is the one I made last year...

The pink bits are wrappers off Easter eggs from the year before LOL

Hi Leigh,
This topic sure brings back memories. My youngest daughter Nikki has ALWAYS been a "tomboy" and point blank refused to wear any "sissy" Easter hats. When my girls were in primary school, I did a lot of voluntary work at the school and I mentioned my dilemma to the headmaster, so he added another section in the Easter bonnet parade.. "Most Unusual hat"..
Nicola was most impressed as she won "Most Unusual Hat" in the parade and won a nice big easter egg.
The creation.. an old straw sun hat with sprigs of ferns and vegetation from the garden and hidden amongst the "foliage" I attached a large plastic green frog; "frightened the pants" off the judge for as she had a close look at her hat; Nicola made the frog croak!!!
Happy days.....oh happy days LOL!! BTW Nikki hasn't changed still the same and she is 28 years old and she works in Horticulture!!!
"edited to add" , just talking to my daughter, Kirsty about this very subject and she added that there was a large plastic spider arranged in the foliage as well and Nicola decided to "arrange" the spider inside the frog's mouth.....no wonder the judge went EEEhhh!!!!!
