My DH & i are planning to go to the states sometime toward the end of the year, so has anyone done a trip or for you girls who live over there - what MUST i see and what MUST i do.We travel quite a bit and DH is a guy who won't plan - we get a ticket and plan day by day. I like to plan and i told him that this time i will be planning it.
Most of the trips we've done - i see a show later with something on it that was awesome from the place we just went to.
We paln to buy a car and cruise around at our lesiure so anyplace goes.

Help me plan the best trip ever. ( We got married on November 11, 2006 - after being together for 23 years. ) It;s not a honeymoon but just the trip that we said we would do once we were married. I am turning 50 in April so this is the year to do it !!! YAHOO !!!!!!

Hi Kaye

Are you flying to LA or straight to New York or somewhere else first?

What time of year are you going, November say, cause it will be cold in some parts of the US.

I went to America and Canada in June 06, and did the 4 states, Nevada, California, Arizona and Utah...saw LA, San Francisco, Yosemite National Park, Bass Lake, Santa Barbara, Disneyland, San Diego, Tijuana (Mexic) Bryce Canyon National Park, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Phoenix, then flew from LA to Vancouver and also saw all of the Rockies and upto Jasper and Banff and Calgary...and that took me 31 days?

I meet Gina in LA, from AFW and she showed me heaps of LA and she took me to Disneyland.

I am going to New York and Washington DC, in late December (hoping to have New Years in New York). Then hope to get up to Niagara Falls, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec.

Have fun! Sounds like a wonderful way to see the states by car, do Route 66, it is great!

There is no way I would miss Canada if I went to the States. It looks beautiful, and the wildlife would be fantastic too.

Kaye - where are you planning on going - any ideas? I have been to the states a couple of times. I did a trip to Las Vegas over Christmas one year and I have also visited Florida and New Orleans. I have a girlfriend who I have also visited in New York and I visited Niagara when I lived in Canada. There are some great places to visit but it is something you need to plan as the country is huge!

You lucky thing! How exciting it must be for you to be planning a trip to the states. I have a good friend that lives up in the mountains in Georgia, it's beautiful there (havn't been) she sends me lots of stuff from there, even their Jelly (Jam to us!) I have one in the fridge called Georgia Moonshine Jelly and it's made with wine! the Georgia Frog Jam is for the kids and is made from various citrus fruits. I have American flags all over my house stuck on windows and the girls wear american jewellery. They have beautiful flip flop (thongs to us!) necklaces. I even have american money!! That might be more handy to you!!!:) I'm all excited for you, if you get a chance, visit Georgia.:)

Oh, I do envy you......it will be a long time before I can do that sort of thing, if ever.
Have a look at this site..........www.virtualtourist.com..........I have used it to plan O'seas holidays for years.

We've never been but planning (tentatively!) to go mid-next year, just to see NY and probably Boston and Washington (will have two small kids so don't want to make it too ambitious).

Why don't you flick through some travel guides like Lonely Planet or Fodors, and work out which areas you'd really like to see, and then research from there?

Sounds fantastic, I bet you'll have a great time! :)

Thanks girls - probably go about nov/dec. Actually new years in New York sound cool hey.
I will get some books from the travel agents then research on the net form there. Like you's all say it's so big and so much to see it will take careul planning - something Dh deosn't adhere to well. As long as we have an idea i'll be happy
I'll post my plans as they go.
Thanks Kaye

I am from the East Coast of the US and right now live in the Rocky Mountains...Breckenridge. You don't want to miss them...its cold here then but there is great skiing. New Years in New York is a madhouse...if you are prepared for that and being squished with a million other people its a lot of fun! The southeast will still be warm...North Carolina and Georgia are gorgeous. Florida you will be able to go to the beach...if you go out west past me it gets warm again in Southern Cali where Gina is from. I have traveled to about half of our states and can give you any tips you might want! I have been to NYC about 20 times...one of my favorite places to visit! :)

I agree with Gina & Caroline. New Years Eve in Vegas is a must. I celebrated New Year's there a couple years ago. It was great.
