Does anyone speak another language other than English? What other languages would you like to learn?

I am an Aust born chinese so I can speak some Cantonese. Enough to have a brief conversation if needed. Then again speak enough Cantonese to get me into trouble as well. LOL

Did you learn any other languages at school? When I was at high school they offered French or Japanese, I did Japanese.

I learnt Italian, Japanese and Indonesian at school. I learnt Indonesian for about 4 years so I am most competant at speaking that.

I took an introductory course last year in Dutch because my father is from the Netherlands and I really wanted to understand my heritage a bit better. My Oma and Opa now try to teach me things when I go over to their place.

I used to know a bit of broken japenese not jsut from school but my mums BF when i was a kid was a baseballer and the teams sister city was japan, so we had japenese exchange people over a few times. was quite interesting to have a japenese "housewife" come and have some at home hands on learning about their way of life. She taught me how to cook a japense dish (dont ask me i forgot! i just know that i liked it enough to go back four times for more!)

I also learnt a bit of italian in school, i wish my kids father had remembered more, i would have like to learn it properly and speak to the kids in both english and italian.

We travelled from England to Australia on an Italian ship, with Italian waiters, stewards etc. for 5 weeks and I never forgot the things I learnt on that trip. :D

During school, we were only offered French and German. I took both subjects for a brief time, and learnt the very basics of both. :) So no, I do not speak any other language other than English. I don't even speak very good Kiwi!! :P (Pam you would be proud of me! No Fush and chups for me!! lol Oooh, but I did say "Stips" one day, instead of steps! :dk: It was an accident though!!! :D )

Over the years, I have come across Japanese exchange students, and always regretted that none of my boys learnt Japanese fully either. It would have been nice to converse at times :) Our friend in Oz has a daughter who went to Japan to teach English at one of their schools, and married a Japanese fellow. They now both live in Oz and have a Son, who is being raised speaking both Japanese (1st language) and English (as second language).

Aaahh....just means you are a true Aussie, mate!! LMAO.

Ok, so dont speak a different language, but speak fluent sailor....especially when I have had a few drinks!! I keep it pretty clean when I type, though, coz its just so hard to add in those extra words!!

Had the choice of French or German in school and Indonesian in the higher grades. I did Indonesian for the flexi time, though, not for any real benefit to myself....though I did learn a lot about a different culture, which was good!!

Mum told me when I was little I could speak a little Maori even though I'm not Maori. I can't speak Maori anymore...I wonder what happened?

Anyway, I learned Japanese, Italian and some French and I suck at languages.

I also learnt French at school, I can't remember a word of it. Makes you wonder if they should bother if none of us remember LOL.

Jake taught me some swear words in Chinese, that's about the extend of my multi lingual talent these days

I know the Greek alphabet :)
One of my friends back in primary school had to go to Greek School on the weekends so I started going as well so we could still play together. Ended up learning the alphabet & then I also learned more Greek in High School. Not much though.
