Jake and I were discussing this, this morning. I would like to start giving them a weekly amount, that they can save up to buy what ever they want ( that mummy has approved LOL )

We did you start giving/getting pocket money? I don't actually remember getting pocket money, maybe that explains why I am so bad with money now LOL.

And how much did you give/get? I was thinking $5 for 2 reasons. If it's a note only, there can't be any cheating, and I know they would think about it LOL. Also, things are getting so much more expensive now days. $5 wouldn't buy you nearly as much as it did 10yrs ago.

What sort of conditions? I don't want to use it as a bribe like "Do this and I'll give you $1" etc But more in general, if you are good all week, and have done the tasks you were asked to you will get it.

God, who would have thought pocket money would be so complicated :dk:

pocket money..never got it...so i pretty much was monitered on every suspicious withdrawal of money!!
bribes arent that good coz they may threaten u with OBNOXIOUS behaviour then to get money..
little money is better..maybe even telin them to get an account of how they spent it would help as well..though i dont think its plausible!!

My son is 5 and your right 5 dollars does not buy much these days, So i have a list on the fridge every day there is a differant thing for him to do. After he has done it I look make sure he has then it gets a tick next to it. at the end of the week however many days he has done whatever it says he gets a dollar for each tick.
And if he does them all that week he gets an extra dollar or two, but i make him save half in his bank account and the other half gets put in money box for spending.
You would be amazed at how much he saves up to spend, and at the end of the year he is allowed to take out of his bank an extra 20 dollars to put towards a big thing. hope it helps :D :D :D :D

We used to get 10cents for each year of our age. This doubled when we went to high school!!!

I have no idea what we'll do, but I think we'll start small too, though maybe not quite as small as when I was a kid...

My boys are supposed to get $5 a week (but rarely do). All we ask is that they make their beds, keep their rooms clean, put their dirty washing in the dirty basket (not on the floor) & open & close their blinds - all without having to be nagged x( . We don't think it is much to ask and they were happy to do it to start with then after a few weeks, it dwindled back down to nothing. So now, they don't get anything again. :dk:

AS children we never got pocket money so to speak. Our parents owned a corner grocery store and we were expected to work in the shop. eg sweeping the floor, stack the shelves, pack fruit. Doing those jobs allowed us to "have" what we wanted.

I told a lie. I just remembered I had one of those Dollarmite school bank accounts. And mum would put $2 in there..here I was thinking poor Melissa, you got ripped off and I didn't get much more. I don't even remember actually getting to spend that either...Hmmm LOL

I wonder if those still run those school bank accounts. I havn't heard anything at the kids school?

My boys school still does it - Bank day is Tuesday. They don't promote it as much but it is still the dollermite accounts and it still happens.

My kids don't get pocket money as such but I will give them money to go out in the holidays excursions etc if they have tidied their room or sometimes other chores around the house. My eldest gets paid for babysitting.
