View Full Version : Tastebuds not working
I know that sounds weird but I had a really bad flu that started 2 Sundays ago, Im over it now (took 2 weeks for all the congestion to go) but I still cant taste anything. I ate a chilli flake last night and it burned my mouth but if I was to eat, say, a choccie well I cant taste it, only that bitter-ey tartness (dark chock).
Herby foods I cant taste, coffee the same as choc only the tartness of it as I have no sugar in it.
Should I go have it checked out? I've had bad flus before and lost my sense of taste but Im pretty sure it has never been for this long. :dk:

That does sound strange Mimi, are you still having problems with it? I think it would be best to go to the Dr and get it checked out, just in case.
I has a bad sinus infection not long ago. It was terrible, and took over a month to shake it. In that time, I did have a reduced sense of taste.
Maybe you are feeling better, but everything isn't back to normal yet? Would be best to get it checked out tho, put your mind at ease.
Let us know how you get on :)
thats not good u cant taste coffee aaahhhhh i would die ha ha ha i think if after a week u should go to the doc's they know about this stuff :D

Yes, definitely get it checked out. There was an article about this in New Scientist last week. Usually it does return of it's own accord. Still, worth seeing a doctor.
I hope it returns soon. Must be awful not being able to taste.
Finally, it has come back!
I noticed it when I started eating some bitter dark chocolate (my favourite) the other day - and I can taste coffee again! Yay!
It definately was a weird one, but Leigh mentioned a sinus infection - I too suffer from sinuses so I think that had something to do with it also.
