Does anyone know an old fashioned way of getting solid granite benchtops clean and shiny?

I'd rather not use chemicals?

I can't believe I want to do this - this is just to sell my house - you think I would have done in while I owned it!!! :O

Hi Gail,

Have you tried Metho and water and a buff with a cloth? Window cleaner works really well too, but both my suggestions are chemicals :(

I had granite bench tops years ago, arn't they just the best!

No I haven't tried either of them. I usually just use soapy water that is hot.

Because I make pastry and pasta straight on the bench I didn't want to use chemicals for fear of cross contamination to foodstauffs but what I could do is do it with a chemical and just not make pastry or pasta.

Yep I adore my grantite benchtops - I have made some amazing things on them.

Including making it icey cold and then puring chocolate on top of my bench to then scrap it up just at the right temp to make chocolate paper for cakes.

Would there not be a special kind of cleaner for this? They seem to have one for everything else LOL.
I would assume it would be a sort of wax/sealer, similar to that you would use on natural types of tiles.

Maybe ask at a kitchen place? Surely they would know?

Well my boss's wife swears by Windex but it's a chemical.

You could try vinegar, isn't that good for cleaning stuff?

When we have our new kitchen you'll have to come down & give me a rundown on how to use all my new toys. LOL.

LOL@Leigh. I was just saying to a friend the other day that it'd be good if Windex brought out pre-soaked wipes!!!

I'd be happy to take you for a spin with all your new toys - I wouldn't get rid of your dishwasher either - you can "clense them" so they smell new.

I wouldn't be without one and it is excellent for resale.

Glad to hear you got your bench tops clean :) Shame you won't be able to bake for awhile.

Oh, I couldn't live without my dishwasher, I LOVE it. We are lucky, FIL is a white good mechanic, gets us all the wonderful things a girl couldn't live without. We got a new washing machine and dishwasher for Xmas, much better than the undies my Mum buys LOLOL.

It's easy to clean them, you can get a bottle of stuff, that you stick in the cutlery basket, stick it through a wash cycle, and its sparkling and fresh. I also use one of those smelly things in there all the time, and it's always lemony fresh :)
