I have three indoor cats and they all wear collars. There are pros and cons but I like them to wear their collars with bells for two reasons.
First, they are easier to find when it comes time to go to the vet or the cattery. Second, should they ever escape or accidently be let outside hopefully they might be returned home or at let others will know that they are not strays.

Hi floria
Yes, my Ash wears a collar with a bell. When living with our old housemates, their cat used to get the collar stuck in her mouth and she would sit there for hours at times (when no one was home) drooling and thoroughly annoyed... This also happened to Ash once. But since then we have a better collar and he has not been able to do that.
I agree its always good to know where they are about the house and also if he gets out (Ash isn't microchipped).

No, neither of ours wear a collar. We did try but there was a lot of stress and fighting to get it off and in the end we decided that they were microchipped and indoors all the time anyway so we weren't going to fight for the collar anymore.
Hi Floria,
Since Bizkit did a runner a while back, mine have collars with ID and they are microchipped. I regulary check their collars to ensure they are the correct size, as I have seen a cat with a collar stuck in it's jaw and very distressed.
Lovely photo of Ppuss btw :)

No, no collars here. Think we tried them ages ago, but the screaming, and not stop trying to rip them off each other got a bit dangerous. Also not a good idea to have an easy access choking device with little ones around.
I was looking after a friends dog for a few days. Came around to feed him one day, and found he'd hung himself on the fence :( Sort of put me off them after that.
We have had a few walk abouts, but always found them again (touch wood) And they are microchipped.
Won't be long and they will have GPS in microchips I'd say. How handy would that be! I'd be signing the kids and cats up LOLOL

Hey Alex that's a thought. GPS and cats.....hmm that's got me thinking. Trev has two GPS, he doesn't need both of them at once. LOL

FE has a collar and always has. He has an ID disc and is also microchipped. Being the Houdini that he is, I feel that he needs one. He also has a bell on his collar. I have heard of accidents with collars so it is important to buy a quick release one.

Lucy has a fully elasticised collar with a bell and identification. It is easier to find her inside with the bell! At the moment Lucy is wearing Sophie's collar and Sophie is not wearing one!! Must buy another.

yes i have one cat who wears a collar, it has a bell on it as when she was outside i didnt want her getting the birds, however it didnt work and at 4 months old she managed to get herself a rather large one, luckily she came to me to show me how good she was, so i saved it and it happily flew away. so now i think a bell on the collar is only useful when you are trying to find the cat as you can hear her coming.
Hi Tassiemel,
That was so lucky your kitty didn't harm the bird! What kind of cat is she and what's her name :)

I don't have collars on my cats because I had a bad experience when the girls were kittens Av somehow managed to get ehr bottom jaw caught under the collar - it was very lucky we were home as she was frantic and they were quick release collars and it did not release. Can't have them on the boys or Quoi anyway as they leave a mark and can't have that when I show them. Jo

I would like our cat to wear a collar with a bell but she is so cunning she takes it off. We have tried different collar and she always manages to get them off.

We have 2 cats and they wear collars. They have since they were babies so they are used to it. They have tags with their names and our phone number. They also wear flea collars.
They are pretty good, they dont ever go far away but its just in case they did get lost.

Since moving to Hong Kong, my two cats have become indoor cats that have balconies to laze around on... so no, they don't wear collars.
