View Full Version : Op Shops
Im really starting to get into op shopping after buying a ten dollar dress to wear to my friends wedding last week! Everyone was gobsmacked when I told them the price, and it was original and I felt one of a kind.
I just wanted to see who else has snagged an orginial piece at a bargain price - or if you've found vintage pieces from the 60's/50's/40's that go above and beyond the abysmal 'boho chic' thats out right now (no offence to the fashionistas!)
I think Im only going to splurge on shoes and jeans now, but even second hand jeans can be fabulous, I used to own 3 pairs that I bought for something ridiculous like 40 bux afew years ago.
I think I'll stick to spending the extra mula on shoes! ;)

I've worked in an op shop for many years and the amount of stuff that I have gotten at bargain prices is unbelieveable. I also love garage sales and auctions and really just love saving a dollar.
ebay is amazing for kids stuff and when I'm finished with it I just turn around and resell it and usually get my money back (a few times I've gotten more :dk: ).
Go the OP SHOP SHOPPING!!!!! :D

I LOVE Op Shop shopping. Most of my kids clothes are from op shops, especially their baby clothes. My mum always comes back with 1 or 2 bargains for the boys.

I just went to one up the road and it disappointed me....mostly designer labels and not cheap.
I dont want last seasons stuff!
No, I thought it was going to be loads of vintage stuff. Oh well. And here I thought I'd have somewhere to blow my money and be able to justify it - 'but its from an op shop!'
;(
Theres not that many in my area, and I think I'd much prefer shopping from Good Sammys or Vinnies as all the money you spend there goes back to Sammys/Vinnies. :winner:

I bought a black jacket to wear at a funeral. It cost me only $20! It looked nice too and it was long sleeved.

I think some op shops are jumping on the 'vintage' bandwagon and charging $$$ for what are merely second hand clothes (and not vintage at all).
I don't really do much op-shopping. I don't do much shopping at all if I can help it, I hate clothes shopping. Well, except baby clothes, that's fun (and love eBay for that).
I think it's luck of the draw a lot of the time, being in there at the right time.
miss.terious - op shops (Opportunity Shops) are usually charity stores that sell second hand clothing and occasionally other items. People donate the items to the charity and the money raised goes to that charity to help the needy. I think the most well known ones are St Vinnies (St Vincent de Paul), The Smith Family ... can't actually think of any others, lol. There are also second hand clothing stores that aren't charity stores (in fact there are more of these around where I live than the other kind). They tend to cost more in my experience.

The Salvation Army have great ones too - they're huge & often set out like a department store.
