Well, it is that time of year again, for the race that stops a nation.
Though we could have a bit of fun.
It's fairly basic, this is the Cup field, and their odds. Everyone starts out with $500 (sorry, but it is not real LOL)
You can bet on as many different horses that you like, or put it all on one. Pick carefully, once your bet has been placed, it cannot be changed.
Betting will close at 2:30pm on Tuesday. All times are in AESDT
The person who wins the most will be awarded the Melbourne Cup rosette http://www.allforwomen.com.au/forums/images/medals/mc_large.gif
Have fun :) :horse: :horse: :horse:

Wow this looks like fun! Come on girls get that form out and start studying for the big race!
So how do you pick your horse..do you go by names, colors or numbers?
Good Luck Everyone :winner:

Um, I go for the very scientific method, pick a horse with a name I like:)

Just heard on the 10.00 am news that someone has bet one million dollars on Makybe Diva - WOW...but that there is still a chance it will be scrapped.
That is a lot of money to lose.:jump:

What happens when a horse gets scratched? Do you get your money back? Not sure the AFW bookie has a thing for that LOL.
You all holding out for your last minute bets LOL

Nope, if the horse is scratched your money is gone.
Gloria, when I was young and politically uneducated, I used to vote using the "name I like best" method. (mustn't tell S, he would be horrified :jump: )
I think I favour the "little bit on everyone". Just need to go and work out how to divide my v500.

No ladies I think you will find that if your horse is scratched you will get your money refunded. But if you have taken a scratched horse in a trifecta or a double or something like that ...I THINK that it then goes on to which ever horse is the favorite. Please do not quote me on any of this ...because it really could be a load of old bollocks.
My father is a fan of horse racing and so I have picked up some clues along the way but I cannot assure you that they are correct LMAO LMAO .
I probably won't place a bet until tomorrow..never usually make my mind up until 'Cup Day'.

I would love the Diva to win, but I think it's a long shot.
My bets are on LEICA FALCON.
Work is putting on a catered lunch for us today and hats are mandatory. Some have made their own funny ones, but others have gone out and bought nice elegant ones.
This is mine and I managed to find it at Target for only $30.

Julie, your hat is tres chic!
I miss the work Melbourne Cup thing - although we are not in Melbourne, our office always had a lunch and watched the race and did a sweep. I am just at home today so I might turn the television on later but it's not really the same.
I've been gathering tips so now I need to go and place my bets, lol.

Nice to see some more people poor now LOL. Still a lot of you holding out. You better get your bets in soon.
Thank god we don't really have to pay out all that money to the winner :faint:

OK, I'm all done too now. Let the racing start.....
My brother and sis in law are at the Melbourne Cup this year. Glenda got some corporate tickets from some clients and got the baby sitter. I hope they have a nice day, it's not very often they go out together since they had Aaron.

Congratulations to our 2 winners. Alexa and Jewly both betting $200 on Maykbe Diva.
You have been awarded your awards :Hehe:
So that leaves the rest of us poor then :( Think the bank will have to give to the poor before our next betting LOL

I won the $1 sweep at work so I'm pretty happy. I doubled my money and a bit more!
Jewly
02-11-2005, 07:31 AM
Yaa!!! I won!!
I also won the Best Hat competition at work as well and won double passes to the movies.
The lunch they provided was a bit disappointing but the dessert was yummy, strawberries and cream and we must have gone through about a dozen bottles of champayne.
It was a bit hard to go back to work afterwards cause I was feeling a wee bit tipsy and the first call that was put through to me was from a Rod Stewart and I nearly lost it...lol
Naomi

DH won the $5 sweep in his office, won $75 :jump:
LOL Julie, Rod Stewart .... did you ask him to sing for you?
Jewly
02-11-2005, 09:01 PM
haha no, but when he said to me...can I ask you a technical question I said....oh gawd!! I meant to only think that, but instead I blurted it out..lol
Must have been the day for singers, cause I also had another client, Nora Jones call. Again not the real one but we do have a few celebrity clients such as Ernie Dingo. Haven't talked to him yet though.
