Does anyone know are Fighting Fish ok to be kept in cold water tanks? I owned some a few years ago and I was always told that they're tropical fish. But when I see them kept in tiny tanks it makes me think it's ok to keep them in cold water.
Does anyone know the right answer to this?

Mine lives in a small cold water tank with no filter or lights. They're very hardy fish as long as you keep their water clean they're no problem.

I have two and originally had them in a small tank separated from each other. I felt it to be cruel so I chucked them in with my tropical fish in a fairly large tank and have been perfectly fine. They say not to put them in together but so far all has been O.K. I've had them since last Christmas.:)

Yep Ive had mine for about a year and believe me it can get pretty cold in a tank of cold water right next to the window and he's fine. They get a bit lethargic if they are to cold so when it's really cold at night I might remember to wrap him up in a teatowel to keep the water a bit warm, otherwise apart from cleaning the tank every fortnight or so that's all I do.

I had mine in a bowl with cold water. I had a plant growing out of it too, some kind of lily, probably it was a water lily. lol It looked really neat. I had to keep the roots trimmed though or the fish would run out of space to swim.

Yep thats right. Cold water is ok. I don't know what the water is like over there but I do know that distilled or spring water that you can buy from the store is the freshest water for them but you don't need a tank. I have one too.

I went into an aquarium this morning to find out. I was told that it's generally ok to keep them in cold water but not a good idea in Melbourne - especially in winter as they don't like water below 15 - 18 degrees.
Looks like if I want them again I'm going to have to get a tank and a heater.
