How will Xmas day be celebrated at your house this year?

Will you be having the traditional hot sit down lunch with all the trimmings (yummo!) or be going for a more casual approach with seafood and loads of salads?

I think we will be having a more casual affair with a leg of ham and cold chicken with salads and lots of special snacky things...unfortunately it is too hot here for the roast with all the trimmings. I really will go to the in-laws in the UK one year for Xmas and experience a white Xmas and a hot xmas lunch where the temperature isn't heading for the 40's!

Our lunch will be followed with a bit of a rest in the air con (hope its sorted by then...stupid Ergon energy!) and then a leisurely dip in the pool.

How is you family planning on spending the day?

We are flying down to Victoria to have christmas with the family. We are staying in our house which my oldest son is living in at the moment with his family. I think we are having a basic xmas lunch with a bit of hot and cold food. I guess we will find out when the day comes. My other son, his family and my oldest brother and his partner will be there as well so it will be good to catch up with them.

I'm going the whole hog traditional this year.

Roast turkey, plum pudding ..all the trimmings sit down dinner. Will go all out with best crockery, silver, table cloth, matching napkins, candles - you name it. Just immediate family, so only 5 of us. I'm really looking forward to it :)

Sounds lovely Pam.....crank up the air con if the latest temps are anything to go on!

Oh i forgot before to add a little tip for the xmas ham..my grandmother always used to dampen the calico bag (or old pillowcase or tablecloth or whatever) that she wrapped the ham in with brown vinegar....not too wet just damp and that is supposed to help your ham keep longer.

Anyone else with xmas hints....?

Thanks Patricia, I knew to wrap it in a cloth (in fact I always wrap any roast meat in a cloth) but didn't know about the vinegar :)

Casual

Going to Harbord to a friends place, Orphans lunch she is calling it...will probably drink and be merry...

Doing a small family thing on Christmas eve at my grans with just my sister and her hubby...casual and some seafood.

My Ex's always had a big traditional lunch then cricket in the backyard then down the road for a swim at the beach...well that was for the past 12 years.

Both.

C'mas Eve MIL does the full English Christmas dinner (with bread sauce, chippolatas, all the vegetables ... everything and a pudding)

C'mas day with my sister will be more casual, depending on what she feels like doing, but just as enjoyable.

A bit of both for us - Lunch will be at my sister's new house and it will be the traditional lunch, sit down, turkey/chicken/pork etc etc with all the trimmings. Plum pudding, brandy custard yum yum......

Then it will be off to the in-laws for dinner which will no doubt be a smorgasboard of food (yes it is the hogwarts in-laws). It will probably be one sort of hot meat, cold meat, ham, all types of salads, plum pudding, fruit etc etc.

Am going to roll home this year :Hehe:

We normally have a casual style Christmas. Pork, ham, chicken and plenty of salads, snacks and such.

We're going to our son and daughter-in-law's for the day and will sleep over as we live about 65 klms from them. And we will have had a few drinks, so won't be driving!

Can't wait, I love Christmas!
