We are having cold weather up here. My little dog Skye seems to be shivering a lot? She was just on the lounge with me and sat right in front of my face really trembling. I patted her for a while and she seemed to settle. Can dogs feel really cold like this?

Jen i am no expert but i did hear a vet on radio last week saying that dogs feel cold like we do & their bones ache like ours do with arthritis etc how old is she jen? if she stops when she is near you getting warm i would say put a jacket on her but if she shaking even when sh e is warm enough then i ( but this is just me ) would take her to the vet.
i am a worry wart jen thats all

Hi jen,
Yes, little dogs feel the cold. My little gog has a knitted coat she loves wearing. Have you got a little coat for her Jen? They are not too expensive.:)

Yes...our dogs have always had coats for winter nights....of course, it could be just a ploy to get more attention and cuddles.

Thanks ladies she seems fine this morning running around playing with the kitten.
They said our weather is warming up not as cold as what it was. I am going to see how she goes tonight if she starts trembling again I will put a jacket that we have on her and see if that settles her.

I read about the dogs having coats. Dumb question...do cats need coats?

(My 3 cats sleep in my garage. It got down to 5 degrees the other night and I thought that they may have frozen. To my relief they were still alive the next morning. I can't have them in the house.)

Hmm dog coats are a sore point here at the moment.

Toto has been cold too so we bought him a lovely knitted number..chewed it to pieces..yesterday I paid out even more money for a more expensive one (kind of fleecey..like a windcheater)..was a fantastic fit and everything and he looked so smart. By morning he has chewed holes in it too and the press studs off as well.

Guess who is going without now?

Yep Patricia...I had the same problem with my little dogs...I tried the coats but if they weren't ripping it off each other then they were chewing their own...in the end I just leave them inside all the time and they get under the doonas...
