My poor boy Ty is really ill and I dont think he is going to make it this time. He has been diabetic for about 18 months and is about 14-15 ( not exactly sure as we got him as an adult that was going to be put down 12 years ago) He has been in the vets for the past 3 days and was on a drip until last night. He was eating and drinking water but wasnt able to stand. My dad called into see him yesterday afternoon and he wagged his tail and lifted his head when he heard dads voice but was worse last night and he looked like was on the verge of going into a diabetic coma. (on human AVPU scale he was probably responsive to pain) the vet said he was not in any pain but his chances of making it are slim. We are going to make the decision today if he hasnt improved any then we will have him put to sleep. I was going to ask the vet for the injections so I could do it myself at home but as he is so ill I cant bear to move him and cause him any further suffering.

I'm sorry to hear that, I hope if the worst happens its peaceful for Tyson and that you are able to say goodbye and feel comfortable in your decision. Its a horrible choice to have to make, but sometimes the best thing.
Oh Fran, you are in my thougths Tyson sounds as though his time has come :(

We made the decision to put Ty to sleep today. The vet said there was no hope of him ever standing again and his diabetes would be almost impossible to control as he was so weak (it had shot up to over 600 - 100 is healthy).
Niall was with him in the end and he brought him home and we burried him in the garden in front of the house with his blankets. Hoping to get a little plaque or garden figurine to mark the spot.
Poor Mini (the black terrier x) is so upset she has barely eaten and keeps lying by herself in the garden she is normally under our feet wherever we go.
It was the kindest thing we could have done for him.
Oh Fran  its is such a hard decision to make but now he isnt suffering
Missie Tyson will rest in peace now. Its nice that you bought him home he is close by!
All the best!

Oh Fran....I am so sorry, but you are right, it was the kindest thing that you could do for Tyson.
All my babies are with me in various parts of the garden....some with shrubs, some with ornaments marking the spot....whatever I thought would have suited their personalities.....and yes they were buried with their blankets to keep them warm.

I didn't know you or Tyson but it was clear that he was much loved. You did what was best for him, hard as that was, and he would have thanked you if he could. Keep your beautiful memories of him.
