View Full Version : Little Lucy is a biter!
Little Lucy is being a real pain she nips at our feet. And when she sits on my lap and hubbys lap she tries to bite our hands and sometimes jumps up towards the face. I want to stop this nipping that she is doing so she doesnt do it as she grows up?
Any ideas?

yes Jen lol puppy training LMAO
i have told hubby he has to take Maggie to dog obedience not for biting but just because she is a different breed to we are used to the cavaliers have all been placid lol but i have to say i think maggie will be a fast learner because she responds to NO really well & when i am goin g out the front door i am firm & say NO STAY!
actually i think she is better then Margot when told No & as Maggie is a terrier i think she may be a jumper & i don't want her jumping the side gate
but to get back to Little Lucy biting it needs to be stopped although all puppy's bite i guess. have you tried being firm with her Jen lol

I have seen how puppies learn from their Mother when and where biting was acceptable (ie playing)....perhaps you could take on that role, and when Lucy bites or mouths your hand, feet or face, make a high pitch noise (like the Mothers yelp) and then ignore her.
I know whenever I play with a puppy and they are getting too boisterous, I take away the attention and they seem to settle down.
You'll have to stop it really soon....jumping up to the face is a really big NoNo.
Yes she gets a firm NO when she nips and she stops it. She came skulking to me last night and climbed on my lap Hubby said he yelled at her and she didnt like it but it stopped her. I think she will learn.
Foxys are intelligent it will take time and patience?

If she is only young she will learn if you are consistent with her, I have always loved foxies they are very intelligent, but they get excited easily.

Heather Ann's advice is spot on. If your puppy is very young then she is still learning how much is too much so that if you react with a very highpitched "yelp" (think of another puppy being hurt) she will learn that bite was too hard. Sometimes people think this is showing the dog your weakness but with a young puppy this is the method suggested by most top dog trainers. Keep hand movement slow and steady. It is a very common problem with puppies and they mostly grow out of it with sensible handling.
Good luck with her - she sounds gorgeous.
