I was in a shop yesterday trying on clothes. "I do, I do" by ABBA came on. I mentioned that this song always made me sad to the shop assistant that kept sticking her head in my change room. She assumed I'd had a marriage break-up.
It brings me sadness because the first ABBA album (1977), was my first record purchase (I was 11). "I do, I do" was the first track on the second side. I was dancing in my bedroom and skipped the record. I cried for quite a time from memory. ;(
God, it's 30 years since that happened. Now I'm depressed.......:hehe:  :headh:

Des'ree (sp) and the song title is kissing you. it was a song from the movie romeo and juliette with leonardo dicaprio. her voice is incredible and the words are beautiful. i guess the power of it made me cry.
another song that made me cry was a modern myth by 30 seconds to mars. probably not anyone's cup of tea, since it's a younger group band and it's more punk. but the song is slow and also powerful. i cried my eyes out the first time i heard it, and me and my ex just broke up, so that just made it worse! the lyrics are beautiful and it gets stronger to the point where the guy singing is breaking down from his breakup and then i totally cracked!
i also like fergie's new song..big girls don't cry. i can totally relate with the title! LOL.

Oh I forgot...George Michael's "Last Christmas" is a great song but also evokes sadness - I'd been dumped by my first boyfriend.

Mad World by Tears for Fears (http://www.metrolyrics.com/mad-world-lyrics-gary-jules.html) is I think possibly the most depressing song I have ever heard.

"Fraction too much friction".....my ex SIL's first husband was dying from a Brain Cancer...the last time I took him out from the Hospice, that's all he sang...sort of....he couldn't talk anymore. I have to change radio channels or turn it off because he was a lovely man.
"Sing a Rainbow"....am tearing up now...I was with a friend when her son died (he was 5) and we sang that to him over and over....he loved it.

Tears in heaven by Eric Clapton makes me sad as we played it at my stepsons funeral, he passed away at 27, also unchained melody by the Righteous Brothers we played that at his church service.

Lots of memories rather than particularly sad songs. there's one that brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it - for no particular reason. Can't remember the name though but it's popular - about a car crash and the girl dies... not many of those ones around! :)

Those sort were very popular in the 50's.....possibly engineered by overprotective parents.

does the song go something like "oh where or where can my baby be, the lord's took her away from me" or something like that?! if that's the song, then it's by pearl jam called last kiss. such a sad song!

Yep I was thinking Pearl Jams song. It was a remake from an old 60s song.
I always cry when I hear bagpipes. Especially at an Anzac parade. As soon as they start playing Amazing Grace I'm in tears.
He's not Heavy he's my Brother by the Hollies makes me tear up.
Nothing compares to you by that bald headed girl whats her name? I had just split from a bf at the time and it used to make me bawl everytime.

i didn't know it was a remake. interesting! i had to download it of course and was surprised that i still remember most of the words. the ending gets me upset when he sings how she wanted him to hold her for the very last time and how he lost his love and life that night. =[

Powderfinger's "These days" makes me cry and I listened to it a lot when my partner and I were having troubles a few years back..
Driving home last night from my cousins funeral "big girls don't cry" made me cry... They were going to play it at the funeral but didn't end up playing it..
Pearl Jams last kiss can make me cry at times.. mainly because my BIL's girlfriend cant listen to it ever as her sister died in a car accident..
There are a few other songs that I just cant think of right now..
Kiki- I love 30 seconds to Mars (in particular, love Jared Leto!).. I could definately see how A modern Myth could make you cry..
and My Immortal by Evanescence..

That's it Kiki - had it stuck in my head all day now :) Knew it was popular enough and that it was a remake, but couldn't get the rest of it. Not even sure why it makes me sad...
Bagpipes don't make me cry Denise - I love them. But you made me remember that the one thing guaranteed to make me cry no matter what mood I am in is the Last Post - played with a bugle of course. Find that incredibly difficult to stay and hear

lots of songs make me think back , but there is one called "Stand by me Diana" I was at a custom van club dance was very young 18, married but I had fallen in love with my neighbour and him with me, we were dancing and my husband noticed the time we were spending together , there was a huge fight all parties concerned went outside and when I went back inside my husband had asked the band to play that song, everyone stopped dancing and watched me walk in as they played "Stand by me Diana" still makes me sad today as I did stay with him for another four years and let my true love go, bloody songs they have alot to answer for
