I've had this sitting in my bookshelf for over a year now and I've only read the first page. I really want to read it before the movie comes out but I just cant get past the first page!

Im so interested in stuff like this, and I know all about it and the premise and who when what why how etc......Im not a huge reader and I need to be grabbed from the first word, literally, for me to read the book. I've heard that it takes a bit to get into but once you do you cant put it down.

Should I perservere? Anyone read it?

I've read it and believe me it really dosen't live up to the hype. It's quite enjoyable only if you leave all your beliefs at the first page and really throw yourself into the story that he is trying to tell. Give it at least a few chapters before you decide if you want to chuck it, because I'm pretty sure that you will finish it. Just remember where what was happening in the book when you pick it up again or you will be sooooo lost you won't want to keep going.

good luck and I'm sure that after a few chapter you will love it. Well, maybe like it alot. HEHEHEHE

cheers

I'm like you Mimi...I had the book sitting in my wardrobe and after months I tried to get past the first page. I still haven't read the book...

I read this book about a year ago and absolutely loved it. It does take a little while to get into it but then it all starts to come together and I didn't want to put it down.

I've read most of his other books too and all of them are written in the same way but I really enjoy his style of writing.

I guess for me being an athiest it didn't offend any religious beliefs for me, which I know can be an issue for some people but keep an open mind and I'm sure you'll enjoy the book.

Yes I'm the same as you Mimi. My girlfriend first told me of the Da Vinci Code and said what a fantastic book it was and that she couldn't put it down so I eventually bought it read the first few pages about a year ago and just haven't got back to it, didn't grab me at all, might see if I'll give it another go.:D

We should join the Book Club and suggest this book. What do you think? I do love the inevitable discussions after seeing a good movie - I've read 2 fantastic books in the past 3 years but I never had anyone to discuss them with. Maybe this will be a motivator, the fact that there are afew others trying to get through the same book. Or can you not be bothered?

Well I haven't read it either, but my Son keeps telling me to. He has the book so I might borrow it now, and give it a go. Would be nice to discuss it afterwards, and see what everyone's ideas were on it. :)

well it is not well written but is an O.K read...

I have just finished "A Million Little Pieces" by James Fry, now that is a book you can't put down...then I watched Oprah at my sisters and they had the author on and most of it is a con...

Now I am reading "The Kite Runner" and it is brilliant...

I have also read The Five People You Meet in Heaven, and Tuesdays With Morrie, loved them both and would have to be among my favourite books.
I also could not get past the first few pages of the DA Vinci Code, not sure what all the Hype was about.

I thought it was okay - just another mystery thriller. I didnt know what all the hype was about really, certainly not quality literature by any stretch of the imagination.

A decent read but nothing exceptional. I thought it was worth the extra cost of purchasing the illustrated edition. My favourite character was Silas the albino monk. Paul Bettany will be playing him in the motion picture.

I love Paul Bettany - such a versatile actor! :)

I think it is one of those trendy books that everyone talks about for a little while, then will be forgotten.

I tried to get it at the local library - there were 13 reservations before me! I didn't bother

I read time travellers wife and thought it was a great read - it only took me a couple of days. They are going to be making it into a film to be directed by Gus Van Sant. Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston bought the film rights when they were together - so not sure who is going to be cast in the role though.

I read the whole book cover to cover in 2 days. It did take me a bit to get started into it. I absolutely loved it though. I cooked dinner while reading. Everywhere I went I had my book. lol. Got me started on reading again.

I read it recently and like you found it very hard to put down. For a couple of days we ate take away, too late to cook when the hunger pains attacked. Have you read Angels and Demons by same author? its also a very good read.:) :jump: :comfort:

Dizzylizzy. I havent read Angels and Demons yet, but was told I should have read that first.
Only read the Da Vinci Code, because I picked it up for 50c at an op shop. When the hardback was selling for $39 still and the soft back was still $16 or $17. So I thought why not. lol.

I loved the Da Vinci Code & Angels and Demons. The first few pages, I adjusted to his writing style, then couldn't put the book down! Deception Point by Dan Brown is a good read also.
