just throw in the meat and vegies and stock and turn on. Thats all I did when mine was working I would put it on at 8.30 in the morning and it would be ready for dinner,I used the auto setting and it regulated the temp itself

I love my slow cooker! Even more now that its winter here. Here are a couple of recipes that someone sent to me..

500g cheap steak (any will do), cubed
4 potatoes, peeled and cut into quarters
2 carrots, peeled and cut into thick slices
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, chopped thinly
1 can whole, peeled tomatoes
1 can Heinz Big Red tomato soup.
a dash of Wostershire sauce
a dash of white vinegar

1. Brown the steak in a frying pan until just brown.
2.place evrything in the slow cooker, making sure everything is covered with liquid.
3. Stick the lid on top and put the slow cooker on to auto.
4. Cook for at least 6 hours, but 8 is best.

Creamy Chicken

2 or 3 chicken breats cut in half.
Sprinkle with a bit of salt pepper and paprika.
Mix half a cup of white wine, tin of cream of chicken soup and small tin of sliced mushies.
Pour over chicken then a bit more paprika on top.
Cook on Auto for 6 hours.
In the last half hour of cooking add half a carton of sour cream and turn to high.
Serve with rice and steamed veges.

Mince (I used about 500 grams)
1 egg
1/2 cup bread crumbs
salt and pepper
2/3 cup chunhy salsa
2/3 cup steak sauce

*Combine mince, egg, BC, salt and pepper. Brown very lightly in fry pan.
*Add meatballs to slow cooker pour over steak sauce and salsa and mix very gently.
*cook on low for 3-4 hours.

Oh that creamy chicken recipe looks so yum!

Barbar, Patric, anyone?? What about doing roasts in there, how do I do that?

Okay, okay :headh:

Right - I have never browned my meat first - I just chuck it in.

If you are making a casserole only put in half the amount of liquid you would normally use in a casserole dish because it doesn't evaporate as fast because the moisture stays in.

If you are cooking a roast, just put it in as it is & it will cook fine. It will end up cooking in it's own juices.

Try not to open the lid otherwise you could lose up to 30 minutes of cooking time. If it is close to being ready but there is too much liquid in it, take the lid off & turn it up to high for 30 minutes.

To give you an idea on cooking times - here is a list that I go by

Normal 15-30 minutes = 3-4 hours on the Automatic setting
Normal 60 minutes = 6-7 hours on the Automatic setting
Normal 1-3 hours = 8-10 hours on the Automatic setting.

I'll add some recipes later :)

They range from $30 -$50 for a 3 litre one which is probably the perfect size for you Angie :)

I got mine on special at Retravision for $39 and it's a 4.5 litre but K-mart & Target sell them as well & have better sales

Target has them on special this week.

I paid $80 for mine from the goodguys, I have a 6litre one.

Roast Chicken

1 x free range chook
fresh garlic, minced
fresh rosemary, chopped finely

Rub garlic and rosemary both inside and outside of the chicken. If desired, you can brown the chicken first, I don't bother, instead a put a couple of dobs of butter on the breast under the skin.
Spray crockpot and cook on High 3-4 hours or Low on 5-6 hours, depends on your crockpot.
This creates about 1/4 cup of its own juices which makes a lovely gravy to serve.

Herb & Garlic Lamb Shanks (for two)

Two lamb shanks (the meaty ones)
Container of Vegetable Real Stock (pre made)
Garlic
Herbs

Fill the slow cooker about 1/3 with the veggie stock. Score the outside of the lamb shanks and rub crushed garlic into them, sprinkle on some herbs and some salt, I just use mixed herbs from a jar, but fresh ones would be even better. Place the lamb shanks into the stock. Cook for either 8-9 hours on low or 4-5 hours on high.

Cooked a leg of lamb in the crock pot today and it was delicious, the meat fell away from the bone and was tender as anything.

leg of lamb, rolled
1/2 cup soy sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 package onion soup mix (1.5 oz)
5 cups water
1 large sweet onions, sliced

1. Combine all ingredients in a crock pot.
2. Cook 8 to 10 hours on low.
3. Remove roast and let set 20 minutes before carving.
4. Slice thin.

My lamb wasn't rolled, put it in bone and all (tight squeeze as my crock pot is a 3 litre).
Didn't add the onions (wouldn't fit) and didn't have any onion soup so used powdered vegetable stock instead.
Served with roast potatoes (done in the oven), corn on cob, peas, and cauliflower/broccoli cheese.
Didn't bother with a gravy as the meat was so moist, just sprinkled some mint sauce over it.

I do my roasts the same as Barbar BUT when they are done and the veges are in the normal oven roasting away, I take the meat out of the crockpot and put it in the oven to brown and crisp up (especially if its pork) for about half an hour or so...you get to judge after a while.

Apricot chicken

1 pkt onion soup mix
1 can apricot nectar
chicken pieces or breasts or legs (whatever you prefer)

Put chicken in slow cooker
Mix the soup mix into the apricot nectar and pour over the chicken

Cook for 3 -4 hours on high or 5 - 6 hours on auto

Wow these recipes sound sooooooo Yummy ,I'm going to print them off and give them to my husband so he can cook me some thing good.
Angie these cookers are great, you have to get one, but don;t go for a too smaller one, I had a small one gave it to my daughter you can't get a whole chicken in it or a roast, the good thing is you can get your tea on nice and early when you have the most energy and when you feel like crashing in the afternoon you can :y: or you can go out for the day and your tea is cooking away nicely

I'm getting one of these...I like the idea of preparing dinner in the morning when the boys are happy to play together, or Aiden is sleeping and Logan is playing....of an afternoon it is a mad house here.
