Eeek...there's a giant hairy spider looking at me from above. :help: It has to die....soon!

No, I just chase them outside with a broom so they can do the job nature intended for them. However, if they don't go quietly....:hehe:

I usually leave the huntsmans and daddy long legs alone, occassionally I find a spider I don't like the look of so hubby gets it outside.:hehe:

I'm a bit like that too, but unfortunately when they are in my bedroom and racing around my bed at midnight they just have to die. LMAO

I don't do spiders, darling heart does, but he hates grasshoppers so I have to rescue him from them. Quite a funny site to see a 100kg man run screaming from the house when there is a grasshopper in site.LMAO

I don,t kill them unless I have no choice, I,ll leave them alone if they leave me alone.

I will leave huntsman spiders inside... the rest will go outside except poisonous one's which I usually will squash..

I leave daddy long legs alone but anything else must die in the least messy way possible.

Heather
30-09-2007, 07:19 PM
They have as much right to live as I do....just as far away from me as possible.
When we first moved in here, the neighbours must have wondered what asylum we had escaped from....there was the ex, in front of their house talking to a spider "Now just stay over here....and don't come back"....while I was clinging to the Hallway light telling him to tell the spider just that.

Oh heather you are a godsend. I'm just the same. The only difference is I've got pills that help with the talking to spiders now.LOL

Of course. Esp the big hairy creatures. I am deathly afraid of spiders and usually let other people kill them (if someone is home)

I can not rest if I see a spider, If my DH is here he has to take it outside, or If I am alone, it will have to die.
Thats it in a nutshell...LMAO
I once had one of those nets you put over the bed to keep mossies away, thought it looked nice too.
One morning I woke up to see a huge spider on it, but wasnt on the outside...was on the inside..
So down it came and I threw it outside..with spider in it, that one got to live..as I had him trapped. LMAO LMAO

Heather
30-09-2007, 09:29 PM
I ring some brave friends if I'm alone with a spider.....or else I stay out of the room until there is someone who can transport them outside.

Redbacks & BIG ones I kill daddy longlegs are allowed to stay & golden orbs are allowed out of thehouse yard

I just suck them up in the vaccum cleaner, done and gone, no mess and no fuss and no they have never crawled back out.

I have a serious thing about bugs, I have a difficult time not being freaked out if I know there's a spider or a cockroach or something in my place, so I kill anything that looks scary. I have to force myself to even get close enough to kill it, nevermind get close enough to scoop it into a jar and release it. I don't think I could do it if I wanted to lol. I've only had to kill one in the past several years though (and it was HUGE and black and scary), my apartment complex hires exterminators to spray once or twice a month so it's a rare creature that can get into my apartment anyway lol

The only spiders I have an issue with is the big hairy huntsmans, I usually have to get some one else to get them and put them outside or squish them. Only trouble is my OH is just as scared as me, big wuss he isLMAO

That's the funny thing....I'm petrified of spiders outside so would rather let someone else deal with them. Inside I figure I've got a home turf advantage....it makes me bolder. :hehe:

Live and let live is my motto...what harm are they doing?

Well as someone who has spent time in hospital from several redback bites - THATS what harm they are doing!!

The rest suffer guilt by association !!!

Naomi

Live and let live is my motto...what harm are they doing?

I'm paranoid about redbacks with the cats - our cats aren't too discerning when it comes to chasing small scurrying things. We have a lot of redbacks in Sydney and they are potentially lethal according to my vet so I do squash them - not to mention I don't want them near the children. Huntsmen are ok, leave them alone. Big hairies I can't identify I also use the vacuum cleaner on. I leave all spiders (except redbacks again) outside - we have heaps, I don't always know what they are but I keep my distance.

Patricia
01-10-2007, 05:10 PM
LMAO..if I had a dollar for every redback both inside and outside this house I would be very rich in deed.

I can clean every web and every spider that I can see one day and by the next morning they are back and have brought all their relatives with them.

Now we have an arrangement, I only disturb them once a week and they just get on with it without bothering me :)

Patricia
01-10-2007, 05:11 PM
Sorry Kjoy and Naomi but you two are both sounding like the paranoid English visitors I have just had who spent the whole time they were here looking for redbacks and snakes.

01-10-2007, 06:06 PM
we don't get many spiders, and there is nothing threatening, but now they say we have your beloved white tail here in Central Otago and only this part of NZ , so now I have to keep a watch for our, well not ours but your nasty little white tail. haven't seen him yet, but if I do HE IS DEAD

Clearbrite
01-10-2007, 07:40 PM
I have a huge spider phobia..so i dont personally kill them..hubby has too!

If they would only stay outside where they are meant to be,then there wouldnt be an issue!

But if they decide to come inside, then thats it..dead!

I cant stand them..any size. Huntsmans are the wost terror for me,but in my book all spiders are just as ugly and nasty as the next..yuck!

Kjoy

Sorry Kjoy and Naomi but you two are both sounding like the paranoid English visitors I have just had who spent the whole time they were here looking for redbacks and snakes.

I wouldnt say I am sounding paranoid.

I have been hospitalised and suffered quite badly from multiple redback bites - on more than one occasion.

There really is nothing paranoid about that.

I am not someone who runs around and screams and banishes spiders from my home. I simply ensure the dangerous ones - of which I have had up to four varietys in my backyard - are no where near me anymore. Anti venom has some rather unpleasant side effects.

I actually like daddy-long-legs (or is it dandy-long-legs?...I never know, both came up when I googled it). They are delicate and harmless - they can live in my house! :D

Actually, I should check where that huntsman got to, I didn't get around to killing it the other night!!

My cats are outside during the day, in the garage at night. Their last kill was that poor magpie. I'm waiting to find a possum or the like! Sox, Smudge & Tilley are little terrors.....

Ugh - i hate spiders & can't talk myself into getting close enough to killing / catching them, so i just pretend they aren't there and keep my distance from them. if they are in a spot that i need to get to, then i'll usually get the flyspray & give them a shot of that before getting the vacuum cleaner out...

i tend to leave them be though.

kezabelle
02-10-2007, 02:05 PM
I used to vacuum them until my MIL theorised they could hatch eggs and have a whole colony in there! I'm afraid it is the one animal/insect that has to die if it enters my house - unless hubby rescues them first. I have tiny little signs written in Spider near all entrance points that explains the dangers of living, so any spider that braves it deserves what it gets!

OMG there was a Spider in the bathroom tonight, it ran behind the water heater. Guess it will live until it emerges again...

Kekka, there are lots of Possums up here, two just raced accross my roof a few minutes ago. We often leave food out for them..

I read somewhere that daddy-long-legs are very poisonous but they're fangs are so small they are unable to bite humans. Even if it's not true I kill them anyways. :)

I kill any bug that comes in my house, except for ladybugs. I take them outside and set them free. I hate spiders, if they come inside they will die. My cat is really good at killing crickets which also must die if they dare to come inside. We had a couple snakes in the basement this summer and I think I would rather see them then bugs. Snakes I just take outside. What I hate most of all are silverfish. Those things are so disgusting, they're so hard to catch too, they're so fast. I get creeped out just thinking of them.

Hi keithallensmommy,

This fact is quite true. (I consider them harmless because they can't bite me! :D.....I used to play carefully with them as a child.)

Howdy Cherie - That's very kind of you, being a possum couldn't be an easy life. I would feed them if my cats weren't about. My only large tree is well away from the house so I've never had them in or on the roof. A cheeky possum once walked along my back fence during an outdoor dinner party!....he or she looked a little surprised to see 6 people by candlelight staring up at him/her. :)

Aaaah what a difficult question. ^^;

Anyone who says they're more afraid of me then I am of them... IS A LIAR! They KNOW now scared I am of them, and if they were afraid, they wouldn't be walking TOWARD me while I cry out.

Well in truth I have a pretty heavy phobia of spiders (note that it's not anything chronic though). If I'm home alone and one of them comes crawling nearby... I'll have a handful of kleenex in my hand (generally much more then needed but I take NO chances >.<! ) and well... off it goes.

But if I'm not home alone, I'll ask whoever's bravest to either take it outside or kill it. I just don't want it near me >P If it comes anywhere near my personal bubble, it becomes a threat to me, pure and simple...

now i have to post in this thread, considering i've waited too long and had an encounter with a spider a few minutes ago. yes, i'm a spider killer, a bug killer, except ladybugs we set them free. if my DF is around, he's the one that's killing..if it's just me and the kids, well then i don't have much choice, do i?!
about a week ago i saw a decent sized spider on the computer screen and a few seconds later i looked again and it disappeared. then this morning as i'm preparing breakfast for the kids, becca tells me there's a spider on the toilet seat. it was the same spider! the thing was pretty big and i got scheeved out, but i had to encourage myself to do it for her sake, lol. so i told her to get a shoe and i had a napkin. i quickly set the napkin on top of the spider and slapped the shoe right ontop of that. then i just scooped it into the napkin and in the toilet it went. i'm still grossed out. i can't stand bugs or the slippery feel of fish. EWW!

Ugh! I'm aware there's a few sacrifices I'll have to make once I have children... Much like my own parents did just last year. Yes, I still lived with my parents last summer lol

Anyways, I'm about to go take a shower, and I see this enormous spider by the shower. Now... when I say enormous, I mean it. It's no exaggeration because of my fear. It was the size of the palm of my hand, legs and all. And when I say that, I don't mean a dandy long-leg or however you spell it. Oh no. It was FAT. From body to legs. Just FAT. And hairy. Oh so very hairy.

So I hurried upstairs to tell my mom about a big spider in the bathroom. She rolls her eyes at me and says "You're 24. You can kill it yourself." I finally convince her to come see it and show I'm not exaggerating. She gets to the bathroom and I see all colors drain from her face.

"See?! I TOLD you!"

So she laughs nervously and says "Hey, let's wake up your father! ^_^"

Haha, so she goes to his bedroom and attempts waking him up. I hear him say "Kill it yourself. You've never been afraid of spiders before", to which she replies, "No really, come see this. If you don't take care of it, it'll eat you in your sleep."

So he gets up, sighs heavily, puts on his glasses, goes into the bathroom, and freezes right there with wide eyes. He just goes "Woah!" Now it's up to Super Daddy to take care of it ;) hahaha! He did take care of it, but he admitted not being too comfortable doing so. He grabbed it in a towel, dropped it once, and it went "TOCK!" really loud on the ground. *shudders* Then he flushed it down the toilet. My dad was pretty much freaking out, because at first the little bastard was fighting with the current O_O....

Aaaah how I love my parents. ;) I just hope I never have to deal with such a big spider when my turn to be a parent comes. O.o... But karma tends to laugh at me a lot sometimes. *looks around nervously* :uhno:

I am another "if i see it its dead" person unless its a daddy long legs i let them be as they keep the other spiders away.

Im another one who hates bugs, dylans always catching grasshoppers and various other bugs ....he has learnt not to bring them anywhere near me......After learning the hard way...... He had a grasshopper one day and kept bringing it near me and letting go of it...despite me repeatedly begging him to get it away from me and keep it away from me, well he pushed fate too far and once again let it go near me ...the bloody thing jumped on me and my reflexs kicked in andi flicked it down to the ground then it went splat underneath my foot ....i felt soo bad, dylan was so upset, mark just chuckled and said to dylan "well mate you gotta listen when mum says GET IT AWAY FROM ME"

speaking about bugs in general, the kids constantly caught fireflies during the summer. not sure if you guys call them fireflies also..richie had about ten in his hand, totally grossed me out. then i'm sitting in the backyard, enjoying our tiki torches, and i feel something on the inside of my pants crawling. i thought i was just imagining it because i get paranoid, mostly over the summer, with bugs. so i lifted my pant leg and there it was-a firefly. i FLIPPED out, everyone laughed at me, and then i went inside for the night.
