Cell is the latest offering from renowned author and scrip writer Stephen King, who has brought us such horror favourites as Carrie, The Shining and Salems Lot and also heart warming saga's such as The Green Mile and Hearts in Atlantis.
This book is quite different from most of his other published works in as it dosen't really go to in depth into the characters, it's quite quick and easily read and is short on mystical horror and long on action and intense narrative as the characters are delved into an unknown and unbelievable scenario.

This is the blurb from the back of the book:

Civilation slips into its second dark age on an unsurprising track of blood, but with a speed that could not have been foreseen by even the most pessimistic futurist....By Halloween, every major city from New York to Moscow stinks to the empty heavens and the world as it was is a memory.
The event became known as The Pulse. The virus was carried by evey cellular phone operating in the world. Within Hours, those receiving calls would become insane - or die.
In Boston, a young artist, Clayton Riddell, flees the explosive heart of the city. Clay's son has a little red cell phone. Often out of juice. But what if this time the battery is full?. Clay has to reach his son, before his son reaches for his phone.

I found this book both entertaing and thought provoking at times. I started it on Saturday afternoon while the baby had a sleep and couldn't put it down and finished it by late Sunday night. I have read some King books before and although I find that he sometimes goes overboard with the background information, that isn't a problem in this book. If you have never read a book by him before and are looking for an action, thriller, adventure type read this is definately the book to try. If you have read and enjoyed any Matthew Reilley books, this reminds me a great deal of his style of writing. Or maybe Reilly books are like Kings.......mmmmmm something to ponder.

Cell is currently available at all good book stores, I brought mine for $18 at Big W and saw it recently in at Angus and Robertson for $24. It is a large size paperback and the print is easiely read.

Hope you all enjoy.

Untill next time.

Cheers
