I thought I would start a thread about things we remember from when we were younger ..please feel free to join and say if you remember the things that others do or add in some of your own.
Do you remember taking empty soft drink bottles back to the shop for a refund and then using the money to buy lollies (that's candy for you Kiki ;) and sweets for any Brits :P) and still having change to take home?
I do :P

I remember milk and bread being delivered, the milk was delivered by horse and cart they only stopped when the horse got hit by a car one morning. I remember taking my dog for a walk at night on the beach near my house when I was a teenager and not being worried about being attacked, I remember when the neighbours had a party everyone was invited and the kids all played cricket or footy in the street and noone complained. There,s more but it would take all night.

I remember all that and more. :D
I remember sitting with my ear to the Radio listening to my favourite serial. No TV back then.
An Ice Cream cone costing 5cents.
Making a Slingshot or Crossbow and trying to kill every bird that came near.:hehe:
Owning an Airways Bag.
When Cake shops were owned by Australians. LMAO LMAO

I remember most these things to, well not the horse and cart or no TV, and what the hell is an airwaybag''
but i still feel safe walking on the beach at night,
but I do remember lollies tasting like lollies and not soap as today,
we had TT2's and Moggy Men ice blocks, Gee Fizz and Aniseed Wheels that you bashed on the side of the house to break into edible pieces, I remember hot summer nights, when all the kids played outside till dark, and your boyfriend meeting your parents instead of tooting outside

I remember collecting the softdrink bottles to go buy lollies.. 20c for a 1L bottle and a 20c bag of lollies had plenty of lollies in it!! I remember when the TV didn't run all through the night in the town I grew up in and would come to a close around midnight and end with the national anthem... Also the street lights would turn off around the same time as that or maybe a tad later..

I remember when all the shops closed a lunchtime on Saturday and nothing was open on a Sunday - not even a supermarket. Some towns near here still do it but it used to happen everywhere - even in the city.
I remember the drink bottles too. Oh, and when you could go up to the local fish & chip shop and get minimum chips for 30 cents

I remember that too! We'd fall asleep watching t.v. and be awakened by the anthem playing. Oh! And Saturday mornings were kids programming, but only on 3 channels. You'd get Tom&Jerry, The Three Stooges, and The Justice League. :)
I remember going outside to play as a kid and all the other neighborhood kids would be outside too. And all the moms helped watch the kids. I used to get it a lot by the neighborhood moms. Those were the days, huh?

I remember having to walk about five minutes to get a load of fries for just a dollar, and paying under 3$ for a full meal for the whole family. The place has closed down since. :(
I remember picking candies that were a penny each and come out with hundreds of them too! It's not like that anymore. :( Or very rarely.
I remember watching my saturday morning cartoons (in french! haha) like the Jem and the Holograms, Ninja Turtles, Super Mario, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, etc, all that actually animated with hosts that would introduce the shows and do sketches in between, like Vazimolo and Bouldogue Bazar, until stations decided it wasn't good for kids and removed them. (I can just watch english channels but it's not the same :( )
I too remember when all shops were closed on sundays!
And I also remember how (at least in my town) whenever they announced the upcoming of a snowstorm, they closed all the schools in the areas. XD Now the kids have better find a way to get to school and not miss class, storm or no storm :P lol

Who remembers those cap things that came in a roll, they were red and had gun powder or something like that in them, we used to put loads of them together and drop rocks on them to see who could get the biggest bang, or we'd scrape a rock along the roll of them and see who'd make the most consecutive pops. Anyone remember them? i cant remember what they were called. Gee they were fun!

No your not mad....it was on Channel 2 just before the news in the late 60's.

I remember fighting with my sister who got to have the first bit of milk from the glass bottles on top of our Weetbix!! We both always wanted to have that first creamy bit because it was so great on weetbix with raw sugar. :D
I remember walking home from school, cutting through the bush at the back of the school to the creek that ran through it and trying to catch tadpoles with my school socks. Oh and sharing a toilet with about ten green tree frogs. :hehe:

I remember playing in the park with my best friend. We would hang old sheets in the trees to make hammoks and at lunch one of us would go home get food and we would hoist it up the tree in a bucket with rope. We did this all day and our parents didnt worry as long as we were home for dinner.

I remember being allowed to walk to the milk bar by myself. I had to go through the Botanical Gardens to get there. Nowadays I wouldn't let my son walk by himself through Gardens with lots of hiding places for the pedo's. (!!!)
I remember having to push the buttons on the tv to change the channel since there was no remote.
lol, where I grew up there were only two channels - one was "Dad's news time" and the other was the ABC ;-)
