Sandy he was working in retail/groceries wasn't he?? Any chance they would take him back on casually until he got himself another job?? Although if I remember rightly it was quite a drive....
Only other thing I can think of is the ward services dept at Logan Hospital...I know Ipswich is always taking on new staff and wardie's pay these days isn't too bad either. It's an idea....although that would be far from home too. :(

easy pocket money-see if he is up for making cash by mowing neighbor's lawns and such..not sure how it is there, but alot of people here pay companies to do that..and they come once a week..so he can try that..good luck to him on finding a job! it is hard-especially when you're that age. i worked as a waitress when i was 18. hated it and told myself i'd never work at a restaurant again. but there's always jobs out there-just tough when he doesn't have transportation..maybe put some of that money he saved up to get him a car? that would help in getting a job!

i hope he gets one soon sandy! alot of work places are so silly coz if u dont have a licence and even if u r in walking distance or close to quick transport they still dont hire u its so stupid, if u can get to the work that should be all that matters not HOW u get there!!! well good luck to him!!!

Sandy i hope he finds something soon.
/kiki its not a quick process to get a licence in aus. we have a very strict process, the government had to bring in new laws as too many kids were killing themselves and one-another one the roads.

yeah, i remember that from a different thread..i forgot about the whole 100 hour thing..but even to start his hours will be good for him in the future.

Kiki .....he has already started his hours:yes:
DS went to the job agency today :yes:and they said he has to go there everyday at 9-30 am :blink:well that just wont work ,we live out of town ,not close to transport and both dh and I both work so it just wont be possible to do it EVERYDAY.He got a few job numbers :yes:but I looked at 2 of them and they require own transport as 1 is brickies labourer and 1 is landscaping:yes:so counts them out.He si going to try the local factories and hopefully get something if not we are going to see whta sort of courses etc are out there:yes:but ideally he wants work at the moment so he will be aiming for that first:yes:we picked up separation certificate from the previous employer and it had unsuitable worker box ticked:blink:reason why.....nothing stated just left blank:brow:thanks for all your support ladies:)
mummy1987
15-10-2007, 10:07 PM
well i would demand to know why coz they cant just tick it and not write why coz it looks bad for when he goes for another job!
miss kiki
15-10-2007, 10:45 PM
good that he started it! and yes, i would demand a reason also. it definitely won't look so good when he looks at other jobs..

I'd be pushing for answers. One little tick could potentially hold your son back.

Is there any volunteer work around that he could do, that would keep him busy & help build his confidence and might get him a foot in the door somewhere that could lead to paid work.
Good Luck with it all, I hope he finds something really soon.

ok he went back to the job agency today:yes:and also visited another job agency, sent his resume off to a few jobs:yes:and the guy at the job agency told him he felt he would have no problems getting a job:)he applied for 2 jobs in the local area so hopefully he might hear something there:)

Having no reason on the separation certificate isn't necessarily a bad thing....people are unsuitable workers for a variety of reasons. You see if anyone queries him on it, he can simply say that there was a personality clash and it didn't work out. That way he's not bagging the former employer and it doesn't say anything bad about him either....so it's not all bad news there. In fact, I think the reason why they simply ticked the box and didn't give a reason was because they felt they had no plausible reason for firing him. :)
Will keep my eyes and ears open Sandy but I doubt I will see too much that doesn't require a) further education/training and b) transport. :dk:

:)he has a job interview tmrw morning and it is in the local area about 10 min drive if that so hopefully:yes:they were a bit concerned about no transport but ds is going to point out tmrw that it is not a problem as he worked for 3 months at a job that was a lot further away and never had a problem getting there and back:yes:

I hopw he finds a job soon. It can really suck not having a license when it comes to job hunting. Maybe he can get a lift with a co-worker when he gets a job. (thats whay DF did)
Until a proper job comes along maybe he could clean windows at the local fish&chip shop or something. Those guys usually charge $10 a window and if he gets a few places to do it could be a great way to save for a car/license to make job hunting easier.
