to go with the what are you eating, drinking, buying etc threads :hehe:
Just this morning I finished reading The Kabul Beauty School. After Kite Runner and A thousand splendid suns I have been interested in reading more stories of Afghanistan. This was a really great story about an American woman who started a beauty school in Kabul to teach the Afghan women so they could start their own businesses and provide for their family.
Next on the list is Heart of Darfur about a nurse who goes to work in Sudan for 9mths (my bargain bin new release :hehe:)

Am nearly finished reading Covet by Tara Moss-had read her latest(well i think it was) book titled Hit so went to the library and found this one. Next up is Janet Evanovich's Hard Eight-another series of books where I have read the books that came after it:)And as I normally have a few books going at the same time I am also reading a book on Warragamba Dam- it's author is Red Morgan. He helped to build the dam and the book is about the years he spent as one of the workers etc. Luv true stories, normally crime novels tho.:D

I liked Cell, for what it was lol. I don't usually read Stephen King books (the only other King novel I've read was The Stand) so it was alright. I have a serious thing for zombie fiction/movies, so I dug it lol. It was a lot like Dawn of the Dead, but it was interesting. I heard Eli Roth bought the rights to the movie, and I like his other movies, so he might do a good job on it lol.

Ladies Ladies you all have to read Ben Eltons new book Blind Faith. I brought it for myself over christmas and read it in 1 day and it's fantastic and hilarious.
It's set in the future when all the ice caps have melted and england is now kinda sub tropical but mostly water and a religion has taken over where if your a good pious woman you have breast implants, shave your nether regions, and dress provocotively to show your faith and a mans duty is to sleep around, be tough and impregnate as many women as possible.
It was a hilarious look at consumerism (one couple call there baby Happymeal instead of Courtney on advice of there spiritual advisor) and people who read books are frowned upon, yet television and constant internet streaming is mandatory in every home so everyone knows exactly what everyone else is doing at all times.
If anyone wants a good read get it, get it now.

'Girls Night In'
It has about 37 short stories from women authors, to name a few: Kathy Lette, Nick(ola) Earls, Lee Tulloch, Marian Keyes, Cathy Kelly, Gretel Killeen, Jane Owen, Isabel Wolff, Fiona Walker, Helen townsend and lots more.
Only just started storie #1 by Jessica Adams called 'More Single White E-mails' so can't really reccommend it until I read some more! It's pretty old though, first published in 2000, I found it in a second hand shop for $2 a couple of years ago and I'm finally reading it!

I am still forcing myself to read The Faraday girls..just cause Patric said it was good..normally I would have shelved it by now. Getting into it a little more now, but still barely 1/4 in.
Have just finished reading Cathy Glass's 2nd book Hidden, it was quite good. And My Brothers Story, David Pelzer who wrote My story, it's his brother account of his life. Didn't enjoy that as much.

Well I've finished Clarkson's book, still wondering whether or not he got his honorary degree from Oxford, thanks to some sloppy editing :brow:
Now, I have a huge stack of books to choose from....
White Thorn by Bryce Courtney
The Obernewtyn Chronicles (got the first four for Christmas)
Walkabout by Bill Bryson
Heart of Dafur
or
The Stockmen by Rachael Treasure
Decisions, decisions....:headh:

I had heard it was good, which was why I bought it. But given that My Dog Skip made me bawl my eyes out, I cried when the lion died at the end of an episode of Wild at Heart and your poor kitty as well made me cry....I think maybe I'd better save Heart of Dafur for a time when I feel a little less hormonal :)
I've decided to go for some fiction and start the Obernewtyn Chronicles instead....by the time I finish all four books, I should be ready for Heart of Dafur

I've started Blind Faith on Debby's recommendation. I have never read fiction like it before, this is very VERY far from the true stories I am used to...it is very  but good so far.
I loved Heart of Dafur.

I just started Next by Michael Crighton. It's all about genetics and what happens when things take a bit of an odd turn. I've found that Michael Crighton books always start really well and then you just want em over after about the first 20 chapters, but this one is really good and if I didn't fall asleep with it in my hand last night i probably would have read untill this morning.

I just love Ben Elton books. He has such a way of explaining things that seem oh so real. Don't ya just love how they call the kid Happy Meal and how everyone is just about nude when they are on the train. LMAO
Leigh (or anyone else for that matter), if you want any of his other books just give me a yell and I'll post em to you cause I have em all, I'm sure you will enjoy them.

I read P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern yesterday. A friend of mine went to the movie on Saturday and borrowed the book from her daughter but thought I might like to read it first. I couldn't put it down except to wipe my eyes. It's sooo sad but beautiful and funny. Need tissue box handy for tears of sadness and laughter - especially if going to the movie. I'll go to the movie now this week.
