Off to my ultrasound this morning girls! Love to see the bub but I hate the whole drink a litre of water and hold it thing :headh:

A bit nervous too to be honest. I had the 12 week scan which tests the possibility of bub having chromosomal disorders such as down syndrome and it came back high risk. Then had to wait 3 weeks for the amniocentesis (which hurts by the way no matter how much people say it doesn't!). It came back all good :D Yay! Today's untrawsound checks for other things of course, so I'm mildly paraniod. I'm sure it will all be good, but I can't shake the feeling for the last few weeks... Too many freidns having bubs recently with problems is compounding the feeling.

Oh well, had better go and drink the water and cross my legs! :P

i hate the water drinking & holding, ever since i've had my 1st i have a really weak Bladder so when it was time to have my ultrasound for my 2nd OMG the pain..... & would you believe it they always run late so your there for your appointment on time full of water feeling like your going to burst & you need to wait another 1/2 hour (OH THE PAIN :hehe:)
Seriously isn't it great that you get to see your little one on the screen:)
Good luck & i'm sure everything will be fine...

Why not Lee?

No dvd/video as I went to a basic place. It's actually the fourth time I've seen this bub so far (I had a total of 4 ultrasounds all up with the first three!). All looks good so far. The results will be back tomorrow afternoon.

Actually, the water thing isn't as bad anymore. I remember drinking heaps with my first and having ot wait forever as they were running late. During my last pregnancy they confessed they'd changed the rules! Drink a litre an hour and a half before but you can go to the toilet up to 15 minutes before! My prob this morning was that I was doing reading at school and didn't get a chance to go to the toilet! Thankfully she let me go though once she had the vitals :D

glad it went well and hope the results are all perfect! i hated the water too. i always drunk a bit less then they said coz im only tiny and if i drank the hole lot they said i couldnt walk lol! what are amniocentesis? i didnt get to the hospital in time to be able to make a booking for the 12week scan so i never got to so not sure. i only had 2 ultrasounds when i was preg and the 1st one was only coz i didnt know i was preg and was gettin an U/S for somethin completely diff and thats when they said i was preg so that was a surprise. i didnt know about the toilet thing either. i thought they had to have the water in your tummy to see well coz i used to go and i would have too much water so of course the worst thing they could ever do they did which was telling me theres too much water so had to go to the toilet but only a little bit lol which is so hard when your busting and u have to stop!!! hope all goes well!!!

this might be a stupid question, but drinking water and holding it is to push the belly so you can have a U/S and can get a good picture of the baby right?! and let us know how it went!

Yes, that's why you have to drink the water. An amnio is when they put a needle in your belly and draw some of the amniotic fluid out. They check for chromosomal disorders, some of which are genetic, so the doctor has the guaranteed sex of the baby sitting in his office somewhere if I decide to ask him :D

That is late Manda! I thought it had to be between 17 and 23 weeks to be done properly? Probably not :)

Kimba, I won't tell you if I do find out so it will still be a surprise for you! ;)

Hope all went well. The amnio is nerve racking I know! I had one for my DS and the wait for the results is not fun.

Tiff an amnio is when you have an ultra-fine needle inserted into your belly which goes into the womb. The drs can then extract some amniotic fluid which also contains cells from the baby. They then grow a culture and you can get your results in either 48hrs or the 2 weeks. They can tell you if there any abnormailities with the bub. Unfortunately, it can not be done until at least week 16 of pregnancy which adds to the nerve racking!!!

Not all women need to have one. Once you have the 12 week test you may end up in a high-risk zone for down syndrome or other chromosonal abnormalities. You would then need to decide what you wanted to do. Other women have them after the 18-20 weeks scan as this can also present abnormalities.

Gee i can remember having that injection in the belly all those years ago, did'nt really hurt though

It hurt me... but it was more the horrible sensation of drawing out my womb that bothered me! I mentioned it to the doc and he said he could go slower which would reduce the discomfort, but I just wanted it finished by then. And I was very bruised and sore afterwards - lots of contractions for the next week or so - all normal but still nerve wracking.

i had an amino with my first sun and it didnt hurt me that i can remember but maybe i was just really worried something was wrong as we went for the 20 week ultrasound and he had too much fluid on the brain and i had to get the amnio done that day.
I didnt have to drink water for either of mine ultrasounds as i had them done at a womens place that has really good equipment. Costs a lot more though.a bout $80 after money back from medicare.

Only $80? Each of my ultrasounds have cost me about $185 and I've rceived $55 in return from medicare (so $130 out of pocket) - I've had 3 so far and they're wanting at least on emore later in the pregnancy. Still haven't heard about the results. I probably should ring. My usual doctor is away, so not sure the 'i'll call you if there's something wrong' rule applies...

i didnt think doctors were allowed to give results over the phone. i thought it either had to be in person on through a letter.

Rachel

I have gotten results over the phone before.. just have to speak to the doc and not the receptionist for the results and they usually will let you know the best time to ring or when the doc is taking calls.. It may differ state to state?

hmm..i've never heard of that..i'll have to check into it, but i think it depends on what doctor.

Most doctors will give you results over the phone. Of course, if their is some action required from the results you need to go in and see them.

oh right so the amnio needle thing is only for some people like if the down sydrome U/S comes bak high risk is that right? i booked in the hospital too late to get the down syndrome U/S done so i only ever had an U/S after that to find out the sex of the baby too and that was it. i didnt have to pay for mine coz it was free at the hospital but i had to pay for the one i got done when i found out i was preg at 6 weeks coz it was at a private place. hope kezza and manda your U/S went well anyway.
