It's that time of year where there are plenty of those yummy hot cross buns about. I'm curious as to what is ued to make the cross on the top of the bun. Can anyone enlighten me?

Hey Floria :)
The crosses are made using a batter mixture of water and plain flour.
Yes, I cheated and asked mum, I remembered she made them once. Yum!

Speaking of hot cross buns.....have you ever tried a choc chip one from Bakers Delight? OMG they are soooooo yummy! When I first heard about them I didn't think they'd be nice but, the hot cross bun flavour with the choc chips suprisingly go very well together! Bring em on!

Hi Chezz,
No, I've never heard of choc chip hot cross buns! They sound weird but when I think about it I imagine they would be yummy.. I'll keep my eye out for them and let you know what I think!
Love Marsha x
I have a recipe for Choc-chip Hot Cross Buns if anyone is interested? I haven't actually made the recipe myself (yet), its in the March 2005 issue of Super Food Ideas magazine

We have a fund raiser for school, with those Bakers delight choc hot crossed buns. I can't say I was too keen on them.
I love hotcross buns tho, we have a bakery across the road, and after taking the kids to school, I often go in and grab some. They are fresh out of the oven, and still hot. Come home, lots of butter..Mmmmmmmm yummy!

All this talk about hot cross buns has reminded me of when hubby worked for tip top about 12 years ago and his job was to put the crosses on the buns. To this day he still hates the sight of hot cross buns :Hehe:
And I bet hubby was tempted to put a tick instead of a cross LMAO

Very funny but I think he was more tempted to just chuck them out the window or just chuck them anywhere ;)
