I got home this avo to find a 3ft red belly black snake slithering past our dog Karn and heading towards my car with my cat Tabatha chasing it:uhno:I was yelling at my cat :hehe:then ran up and grabbed my cat::it is a wonder it didnt get my cat it turned around and rared up hissing at Tabatha:uhno:as I grabbed Tabatha I lost sight of it:it freaked me out as I just thought what great timing as I was thinking what could have happened if I wasnt home at the time :brow:and I really fret about our animals when we are not home:yes:as we live on canefields and have no fencing,so the dogs have to be tied up when we are not home:yes:but I guess snakes can get them even when not tied up,it is just the thought of it and coming home and finding our babies:uhno: I couldnt believe Tabatha wanting to play with the bloody thing!!!:uhno:

Good excuse not to do any washing, ironing etc.

Tell you what....too scarey for words.....makes me glad I live in suburbia where there are plenty of parks but no bush.

someone was saying that the reason we have so many browns now is because people are killing off the red belly blacks & they are the ones that eat the baby browns, to be honest i dont worry too much about the red bellys although i would not want one in my yard but the browns i am terrified off, & there were so many animals killed by browns last year including Jodies gorgeous Hutch & a lot of poeple to i think

We have seen a few snakes here too Sandy. I worry about walking down the drive in Summer at night. I would have a fit if I met up with one.

Sandy I'm pretty sure there's some stuff that you can lay down along your property line that they don't like the smell of and so they bypass your property. It doesn't hurt the snake (they have an important job to do, esp in canefields) but it just makes them turn away from your property.

I just wish I could remember what it was.....I'm pretty sure Patric has talked about it before but can't remember, could possibly have been a lecturer too....or maybe something I read in a book somewhere? God I'm going senile and I'm not even 30 yet LMAO

I remember Patric was saying something about that too, it was last summer around the time that Jodie was getting lots of brown snakes around her house.

Sandy I'm glad your babies were OK, that would be enough for me too, I wouldn't be able to live out in the bush with all the snakes.

Di I have been told the same thing down here that now everyone is killing the baby red bellies, the brown snakes were really bad here last summer.

Kay, it was Wheelie Bin cleaner (contains Phenyle) that Patricia suggested....she said that they pour it around the house and the snakes won't cross over the area.

good thing you got your cat on time! i would have been as frantic as you were! we hardly have snakes here..from what i know they are mostly in forests and woods and stuff. thank god! BUT supposedly the lady that lives downstairs came home one night and found a snake in her house! good thing we live on the top floor! :hehe:

Kiki....they are often found in the roof as well. Particularly if they are looking for somewhere warm to sleep....if there's been one in your house before, being on the top floor won't help you in the slightest. :hehe:

Snakes don't just live out in the bush....they are quite at home in the city as well, particularly if you have a mouse problem ;)

Oh I will be getting some Phenyle for sure then. I am s/scared of snakes, and there have been a few around...and they were biggun's.
Only thing is what if I put that stuff around the house, and I trap it in side the square I want it in.

OK OK I know...Think outside the square....LMAO LMAO
