Hi girls, just needed somewhere to vent. I only work part-time (3 days) which is wonderful. I am a PA (Personal Assistant) and we also have a full time PA in the office. She went off on maternity leave about a week and a half ago and her replacement decided to leave us two days later. GRRRR!
This has left the office in a bit of a bind so I have offered to work 4 days a week until we find someone. I interviewed about 4 women last week but none fit the bill for us unfortunately. The search continues.
Anyway, I've only worked one 4 day week and I am stressed out! I have a cold sore, I had the falling dream which I haven't had in years mind you the other night, and the thought of having to work 4 days a week for the next month or so is not sitting well in my mind.
It's coming up to the silly season which is loads of fun but is adding to my stress as I co-ordinate about 5 functions for our company! Along with organising gifts, xmas cards and whatever else needs to be done. Normally this is the highlight of my job, but along with having to do both roles it's putting my head into a spin just thinking about logistics!
My only resolve it I guess I'll be the first one having the champagne at all of the events - he he!
My poor kids are seeing a stressed out mummy which I also don't like, but it's only for a short time I keep saying to myself.
Big sigh, I thought I'd just let it all out, take a deep breath and try to relax. Thanks for listening.
I really enjoy being a member on this website and haven't had much of a chance to catch-up over the last couple of weeks.
I just needed to share that girls - I hope you don't mind.
Now, where's that lovely glass of wine gone...

Doing the work of 2 people would definately be tough especially leading up to Christmas! I hope you can find a suitable replacement soon so you can get back to normal! Good Luck :D
P.S. I hope you enjoyed your glass of wine :)

It's good that you thought to come in here and have a talk with us.
So many times when our routine is changed workwise, it affects so many other facets of our lives and we stress.
I'm not going to say, it will get better, I'm not going to say you will cope....I'll just say I understand

Susi are you in the position to work one of those days from home?? I know my partner does that sometimes when they want him to do O/T or extra days and he doesn't want to go into the office. But then he's a program analyst so as long as he has a computer and an internet connection he's able to work
Just a thought anyway :)

Thanks girls for your encouraging words. :D The glass of wine went down a treat last night. I hate to say it but I'm back on another one today - red this time. Yum for this weather. Please don't think I'm turning into a lush! Totally medicinal here!
I'm interviewing 2 girls tomorrow so I'm hopeful! It did feel better to get things off my chest. My boss, the main one, even sat me down today to make sure I was OK and made me feel much better.
Stormy, unfortunately that's the biggest drawback of being a PA. You need to be available in the office most of the time. A lot can be done at home but we have loads of meetings in the office which I either need to attend or meet and greet. Bummer I know but I'm used to that part of the job.
Thanks again everyone!

Don't suppose a cardboard cut out and prerecorded greeting would suffice? :P Good luck with the interviews tomorrow, hope they are suitable candidates for you :fx:

Have you thought of getting a temp? Just an idea?
I too am a PA and I thrive on being really busy, but then I don't have kids and I work anywhere from 40 to 60 hours a week.
Good luck with the interviews.

Hi everyone. Kiki I LOVE your new photo.
Great news. I interviewed two girls yesterday, sorry didn't go online last night - too exhausted, and they were both excellent!
So, all I need now is for the 2 partners that they would work for to meet them and choose one. I would have hired either one on the spot if I could! One of the partners is travelling o/s at the moment and back Wednesday. So hopefully, by the end of next week I will have someone else.
The partner I work for in the meantime has been so understanding which has been a great help. The last couple of weeks have made me appreciate how easy going he is actually and I'm pleased I only work for him!
All 3 were out of the office today so I am back in control - mostly - and ready for another week next week. Haven't given up the glass of wine though!

Thanks for thinking of me girls. Interviews are on tomorrow, I'll definitely let you know how they go.
Cross fingers they'll like at least one! Things have calmed down a little but I am still enjoying the glass of wine as a wind down at night!

Great news everyone. The two partners decided on one of the girls today - woo hoo! :y:
I'm not sure of her start date yet but it does mean I probably only have one or two more weeks of 4 days. I can then go back to my cruisy 3 days and short hours!
You don't know relieved I am - it's like a huge weight has just been lifted off my shoulders:jump:
The PA that went on maternity leave had a baby girl last night. So an all round good day today.
