Don't know about you lot, but I struggle to come up with new things to cook for dinner. I am such a terrible cook :)

Thought it could be interesting if given one ingredient, see what other people would make with it. Give us some different ideas. I'll give a major ingredient, and you tell everyone what and how you would make with it.

To start it off...

Mince good quality, any kind..beef, chicken etc

Nothing exciting for me, I was make spag bol, lazy way from a jar :(

Hmm with mince I generally make spag bol from a sauce too LMAO lol, sometimes I make taco's and Gav loves them, occasionally I make rissoles but ugh I never have a good receipe. Thant's about it I think.

Ok main ingredient chicken, I never know what to make with chicken especially breasts.

It's a bit like being given a blank canvas isn't it.

Lets see, it could be meatloaf, hamburgers, chilli con carne, spag bol, meatballs, shephards pie, curry - geez, it would depend on my mood . . .

I think Barbara about covered it for mince :)

Yeah, I'd do spag bol or shepherd's pie with the mince.

I'd just cook the chicken breast and use one of those meal-base sauces in a packet and make rice and vegetables with it. I am not an imaginative cook!

Mince in this house would be used in chow mein...yummo loads of veges grated into it and then finely shredded cabbage tosssed in and lightly cooked....really yummy! :)

Chicken would either be chicken schnitzel or chicken kiev :)

Hmmmm wow thanks guys, I didn't realise there was so much to use chicken with, I'm not exactly the best cook and don't have many receipe books. Chicken pizza yumm I am so definatley going to try that next week.

Barbar - How would you make kebabs? I've never made them before

I'm so slack - I would never make kiev or schnitzel from scratch, I buy them pre-made (but fresh pre-made, not frozen ... if that's any better). And I don't make the sauces from scratch, except bolognaise because then I can hide extra vegetables in it.

Patricia, is chow mein really that easy? Mince, veges, cabbage and cook it all up? Might try that one day. I'm always looking for ways to hide vegetables.

Edit - I don't make kebabs from scratch either, I buy them pre-marinated and already skewered. I hate touching the raw chicken to stick it on the skewer.

My chow mein is Naomi..lol...
* Brown your mince and onion

* To the mince mixture add a packet of chicken noodle soup mix ( add extra curry powder if wanted but I guess not for Hugo). I add a dash of tomato sauce and a dash of worchstershire sauce.

* I then add grated carrot, zuchinni, diced capsicum, fresh or frozen beans etc etc

* When almost ready to serve toss through some really finely chopped cabbage and cook lightly.

* ENJOY! :)

Chicken pizza yumm I am so definatley going to try that next week

When making these, just be sure to flatten the chicken first so that it is even. Cook the fillet then top with whatever topping you want, sprinkle with cheese & then pop in the oven for 10 minutes.

Just cube your chicken & put it on a kebab stick - you can add capsicum, onion, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, zucchini etc etc & either marinade the night before or baste it with a satay sauce before cooking. Is really yum with grain rice

I'd make cannaloni....make up a bolognaise sauce and fill the cannaloni shells and then top with a cheese sauce and bake....yummo!!

I make my caneloni with riccota, spinach, onion, havn't tried it with many other things, but if we don't want it to be vegetarian i put the mince in the sauce and pour it over the tubes and sprinkle that with the cheese. yumm. I hate stuffing the little tubes of premade pasta though *L*

I use a piping bag without the attachments to pipe the mixture into the tubes. Makes it very quick and easy.

I don't have a piping bag, just made a big move to melbourne and there's so many little things we still need to get, that is already on that list in my head *L* the one I always forget when we have spare money haha.

You can just use a sandwich bag and cut the corner off, does the same job.

Is chow mein suppose to be curryish/a bit spicey? The one you get from the chinese place isn't.
I bought a recipe mix for Chow Mein Mince. Just threw in some hokkein and a frozen stir fry mix. It was quite nice, everyone liked it. But it was a little tangy LOL

Might have to try it with your flavouring idea Patric :)

Ladies, all your suggestions sound great!!! Here are some of my suggestions :)

Mince - Green Curry Stirfry with Noodles (had it for dinner last night and it's delicious); Rissoles with Cheese in the middle and a Raspberry Dressing; Chilli Con Carne.

Chicken - Chicken and Sweet Corn soup (delicious); Red Curry Stirfry with Rice; Chicken Stirfry; Creamy Satay with Rice.

All my receipes are pretty simple... and I try to use existing pastes or sauces or packet mixed powder. I also use Lite Carnation Milk with some drops of Coconut Essence instead of the fattening Coconut Milk.

Let me know if you want any receipes :)

Leigh I use the Rich Beefy Mince (Continental) rather than the Chow Mein as I found that too spicey. I chop up vegies, carrots, chinese cabbage, corn peas, whatever you like. It is really tasty and easy.
