what kind of test is that actually?! hope you do great on it! :)
It s an English test for migrants to be able to work or study in Australia.
In the test there is listening, reading, writing and speaking in the same day.
the listening test is in one hour where you listen to a conversation and answer to 40 to 50 questions.
1 hour to read 3 texts and answer 40 to 50 questions.
1 hour to write 2 paragraphes of 150 words and 250 words.
14 mn to speak with someone.
to pass it you need to get the score of 7/9.
it doesn t just test your skills in the language but your concentration and how you manage your time...

I'm sure you'll do well ode....I work and study with a lot of migrants and they all passed the test first time when they took it. Good luck for the exam....you still have a month so I wouldn't be panicking yet or you'll be a nervous wreck by the time you actually do the test. :D

Ode, yes I have to agree with the ladies, from what I have seen of your writing you will do very well. You have a good grasp on the english language, and from what I've seen from what you have written in here you won't have any problems at all. Good luck and I hope you can go back to teaching.
Hi ladies,
I took my English test yesterday, It was not bad but not as good as I wanted. The first test was listening, 40 questions, I think that I had 4 wrong maximum. Then straight away we took the reading test, there was 3 long texts, 40 quetions overall and 1 hour to finish it. I was relaxed then as time passed, I started to panic, I had just 10mn to read the last and longer text, I just guessed for the 10 last questions. After that, no break, we had the writing.
2 tasks to finish in 1 hour! The first one was describing and comparing 2 graphs each with 2 trends. The second task was to discuss the arguments that university education is just to get a better job or the aim of university is wider for the benifict of the individual and the society.
They adviced us to do the first task in 20 mn and the second in 40 mn, to write 150 words at least for the first and 250 for the second, I described the graphs in 30 mn and did not have enough time for the other, I did not use the technics I have learnt to write a good essay such as brainstorming and outlining, I just wrote what came in my mind.
We finished at 12:00, My speaking test was until 15:00. You can not imagine how much I was tired and wanted to sleep, I did not have a good night sleep as the baby was sick.
The examinator asked me some personal question then we spoke about giving and receiving gifts, a sort of presents to give a child, hand made gift...
Voila.
The results in 21/12.

so close and yet so far. sorry! but overall you did a pretty good job! don't be too hard on yourself. maybe buy one of those english tapes that you can help you speak? hope you have a great xmas!
Yes heather, you are right I need to practice with someone who speaks good English.
My husband does, he lived in England for 4 years and studied there engineering and her in Australia since 1983.
But I don t speak with him in English.

Oh Ode, you got so close. Definitely some more speaking practive would be a great help. Maybe do some singing in the shower!
You could even read out aloud 5-10 minutes a day. My DS goes to speech therapy and the key is practice, practice, practice. So, any chance you get just give it a go.
Good luck for the next time!

You got pretty close though hey, well done for your first attempt :) I would suggest starting to talk to your husband solely in English - it will be good practice for the next one :fx:

You got so close Ode, well done for your first test :) Are you able to get a job doing something like working in a shop where you are dealing with English speaking customers? That way you would be practicing your English until you can resit the test. Or perhaps even doing some volunteer work in the teaching field around English speaking teachers and students?
