Does anyone have a good receipe for batter? One without beer if possible.

Yes you can cook battered food in an electric deep fryer.

A good easy recipe for batter is.....

1 cup of SR flour
1 cup plain flour
enough water to make it the right consistency
Beat it all together until as smooth as you can get it and then put a lid on it and leave it for a good few hours ( I make mine in morning and use that evening) When you go back to it it will be lovely and smooth and ready to use.

If you dont want to make as much as this just use equal amounts of the flours and add water until you think its right.

Let me know how you get on with it :)

1/3 cup cornflour
1/3 cup plain flour
1 tspn baking powder
1/2 tspn salt
1/4 cup each of water and milk
This makes a beautiful crispy, golden batter like asian restaurants use.

you can add egg to batter too can't you? or just make an egg batter and then roll the item in the egg and then in a flour mixture? probably better for crumbing though :-|

Well tonight we are going to have crumbed sausage for dinner and my cousin is going to show me how to make them. He batters them 1st then rolls them in crumbs. It's going to be so yummy, I can't wait.

A question though, is it ok if you don't let the batter mixture stand throughout the day? Cause I haven't made it yet as I need to go to the shop and get some self raising flour.

And also how long can you keep it for after it's been made up?

The longer you leave it the better. But after saying that.....LMAO I would then throw out any unused batter and make fresh next time :)

I'm really glad it turned out well. Most people dont believe me when I tell them how quick and easy it is to make.

It is very very nice batter for banana fritters (and yes of course they are very good for you especially when sprinkled with lots of sugar! LMAO
