DDs#1&2 are getting their lists from their teachers tomorrow with the correct spelling of class mates names. I'm unsure what to get for the cards this year. They usually put in some Christmas stickers or a mini candy cane in each. We're trying to think of something different this year (excluding money of coarse)
What do your children put in their Christmas cards that's small and affordable? (affordable for 40+ cards!) Some ideas would be great, thanks.

I have bought a packet of novelty chocolates from the $2 shops....kids are very rarely connoisseurs at that age.

I don't really want to send cards this year myself, i probably will but it just seems a waste of money

Usually my kids spent the weekend before the last days of the school year baking treats...shortbread xmas trees, rum balls(choc truffles) turkish delight...fudge..and rocky road and made up a little cellophane parcel for each of their class mates all tied up with xmas colored ribbons. Was always a real hit :D

I have never heard of putting anything in Christmas cards. Heck they are lucky to get a card at all. :hehe:We must be very stingy over here but have never heard of that.

we just did cards..some parents would come in with cookies and stuff. i remember i brought in candy canes and just passed them out. nowadays, the kids will come home with like 10 candy canes each! we just stick it on our tree! :hehe: nothing ever went in the xmas cards..it was just passed out to the class. how about a goodie bag?! we have a pretty nifty store here that sells xmas erasers and pencils for a dollar..i think there's 10 in each bag that you buy..even putting a pencil, eraser, and some chocolate in a bag would be cute!

Denise i have to say that i think it is silly to be honest, just the card was good & always nice to get, my GD ran out of candy canes ( naughty nan didnt buy enough) but she was good she just gave the CC to her closest friends & did'nt worry about the rest they just got the card, so she ate the rest lol,
have to admit i can't get in the mood to write out a heap of cards this year

Great idea about the chocolate coins Patricia, that's what I'm going to do.
We make treats, usually Rocky Road and pass out to family, friends and teachers, there's no way I'd do that for all their friends at school though, gee that would take forever, and the way my girls are in the kitchen, it'd take just as long for me to clean it!LMAO

Glitter (loose) which falls when the card is opened looks really magical! :)

Wow that is a cool idea!!Like magic fairy dust or sugarplum fairy dust!! My old street has a massive christmas display each year and they have people dress up etc and an older friend dresses up as the Sugarplum Fairy and gives out magic dairy dust to all the kids(glitter) out of her magic wand. They absolutely love it:yes:
nothing just give cards here

I have to go along with Denise,
I have never heard of having to put something in with the xmas card amongst school mates, it kind of saddens me to think a card and good wishes is not enough now days

Yes I can see what you mean Di, we only did cards at school too.
I don't think that it's 'not enough', I just think it's a fun little thing for the girls to do, they enjoy it and it brings on the Christmas spirit. They spend a long time writing and drawing in the cards too, it's just a fun activity we can do together around the table, and putting in a little candy cane or something makes it more exciting for them.
When I worked at Coles at the dome a few years ago the cleaning lady used to write Christmas cards to all the staff and put a candy cane in each, it was so nice. That was her thing every year and it made her happy to do it.:)
