Who gets into his books? I just seen the add for his new book 'The persimmon tree', does anybody have it, or getting it?

I have 'Matthew Flinders Cat', I only read half the book and lost interest.

I used to love his books but I just find them so tedious now ... they go on and on and on. I love to read but even I get bored reading his books (and I will read the packet of cornflakes on the breakfast table - I read everything and anything).

I read Matthew Flinders Cat and really enjoyed it but haven't enjoyed (or finished!) anything of his since. I have Brother Fish sitting on my bookshelf with a bookmark at about page 30 ... from two years ago.

I have read everything he has ever written and was most touched by the story of his son's illness.

I do have to agree that with some of his stories you just have to plough on and I usually find it is worth it when I find myself on the other side ...:hehe:

I read Mathew Flinders Cat snd thouroughly enjoyed it (apart from the parts when it would switch to the cat-I would skim that) I have one called "four fires" I think kicking around somewhere which I haven't started and have had for about 5 years.. :hehe:

LMAO me too! But the story about the homeless guy and the little boy was great.

April Fools was his best, Jessica was also good, my sister loves his writing style.

I did exactly the same thing with Mathew Flinders Cat Rachel. Loved the other story but hated hearing about the cat. LMAO. Four Fires is excellent, you should read it over christmas. One of the only Bryce Courtney books that didn't go on and on and on.
I always wait for someone else to buy his books and then borrow them cause I generally don't like em that much, but then again I will read anything so his books are better than no books at all. :)

I would have thought the bit about the cat would be the best part :hehe:

Actually I just remembered....he wrote Power of One didn't he....I have read that one and Jessica too and I liked both of them (I think). It was about 15 years ago so I'd forgotten till now.

I think the cat is what put me off the book!

I liked Jessica, Whithorn, Power of One and the Australian trilogy but that's it. I got into two chapters of Brother Fish and Slyvia and lost interest. He has gotten a bit long in the tooth.

I really didn't enjoy Sylvia. It was lame and boring. I forced myself to finish it but it was an effort. I kept hoping it would improve, but it didn't. :(

I bought The Power of One for my DS recently, I haven't read it myself but I did like the movie (so did DS which is why I bought him the book).

I loved Jessica & while reading it kept thinking it would make a good movie then a few months later the movie was on telly- i loved the movie too but found they left heaps out but they have too other wise it would go to long.
Books are always better than the movie but i like to see how they make the movie.
I haven't read his other books, i have watched Power of One- i like that movie. :)

I've read The Power of One, Tandia and April Fools Day. I really enjoyed The Power of One and Tandia  It took me a long time to read April Fools Day - I found it really difficult to get into, but I did finish it.

I thought April Fools Day was very touching and inspiring.

The only book I've read by Bryce is Sylvia, which I enjoyed but it was so long, perhaps a little too long for my liking. I have The Persimmon Tree on my bookshelf but I don't think I'll be starting it for a while yet. It's also as massive, if not bigger than Sylvia.
