Bub has finally discovered she can escape from her cot! She's 18 months now and needs to move to a bed soon anyway... The cot was my husband's when he was a bub and it has a piece of dowl missing. It's always been against the wall but she started kicking the wall for hours on end (usually in the middle of the night) so we pulled it out a couple of months ago.

Today she slept for 15 minutes then woke with a dirty nappy. So, I changed her and put her back and after an hour of playing and calling out to me, I heard her knocking on her door! She normally sleeps for 2-3 hours during the day, but I've been going to cut it back a bit as she's been difficult to get to bed at night for the last couple of weeks. So, I can hear her now playing with a couple of toys in her room. I've put her back to bed several times already. Don't think I'm going to get any more sleep out of her today! :)

Now is the dilemma as to whether to put the cot back against the wall and have her keep us awake half the night, or have her up and visiting in the middle of the night! :headh:

Gosh if my 19 month old learnt how to get out of her cot I would barricade it in any way possible LMAO When she get's into her cot it is the only time she will actually lay down and stop moving! I am dreading her going into a bed! :hehe:

is there anyway to replace the missing dowel? if not then maybe put large stuffed toys in the gap.
My DS kicked on the wall so much that we ended up having to put him in a port-a-cot til he was fully ready for a bed. He also sleep crawled bacically as soon as he could so all the screws on the cot got threaded form the constant movement back and forth. (we also had a second hand cot)

Surely if you think she is due to be cut back on day sleeps then you would have no worries about her sleeping during the night.

I had a friend as well, that used a portable cot, until her little one was ready for a 'big' bed. I just thank god that my DS hasn't thought about getting out as yet and she is 27 months old.....it won't be long, I'm sure..

Hubby has offered again to replace teh dowel - of course, he's been promising to do it since no. 1 was born... :) Maybe I should get off my butt and work out how to do it myself! :D

After her 15 minute nap today, she went to bed without a problem an hour early - no escape yet, but I'll wait til early hours to see what happens. I foolishly left it out and it has little wheels embedded into the carpet, so I can't actually push it back in without waking her...

I think my son worked out the same escape hatch at about the same age, and I know my first was in a bed by this age as we went to Europe and travelled in a motorhome, so she had to be. So, I suppose we'll see how it goes and make a decision based on that.

She's very cute when she peeks around the door! :D

She won't sleep in the portacot usually - that will be so much fun when we visit! :) Maybe I should get her used to it... She bucks and kicks the bottom, which is fairly solid and noisy...

But, she slept through last night and didn't arise til 7 this morning! :D Of course, she's 18 months, so I am NOT letting her give up day sleeps just yet!

My now 3 year old started giving his day sleeps at about that age - but it was an on and off thing, some days he'd just refuse, then he'd have days where he'd sleep for 2-3 hours :dk: I agree that at 18 months most kids still need a day sleep, maybe you can just cut back the length of it as you said. Glad she slept for you last night :)

My DD at 19 1/2 months is still having a day sleep- She really needs it as she just go's and go's and go's (like the energizer bunny!) and actually says now "Mummy- tired Darcie NighNigh" (Which is funny because we don't say NighNight to her- maybe she is trying to say goodnight!)

Cute Rachel! :D Today she had 15 minutes as we were out and about and didn't make it home in time... But, I repeat - she is NOT giving up day sleeps yet! :D

It might be a stage she's going through. I remember my DS didn't have much of a day sleep for a few weeks and then he started again. I did move him into a bed at about 18months though when the sleep was starting to get disrupted and it did seem to work.

our daughter started getting out of bed at 17 months and she takes a nap when she wants to.
