I would love to know where you can pick up secondhand weatherboards! And what do you use on unsealed floor boards in a kitchen? The floor has been down about 80 years and never sealed so it has stains and big gaps between the boards. I dont want to cover up the boards but am getting sick and tired of scrubbing them clean on my hands and knees!!! :headh:

Don't know about the decor in your house but you could always try coating with a dark stain and then sealing them :dk:

Not sure where you would get second hand weather boards, as I don't live in Aussie, Here though we have those demolition yards, or even try an add in your local paper some one may be pulling an old building down
As for the floor boards, sounds like they need sanding, either hire a sander or get in the experts then once sanded right back they will need sealed then a few coats of polyurethane or such like it, maybe advice from a builder about how to fill the gaps between boards, there is a product called plastic wood for filling gaps
Good luck with it all, we have just finished restoring our house it is 135 years old
but even though a headache at the time it is now well worth it

Thanks guys!
This house is well over the 100 years of age and it is a headache too! I wish I was close enough to have a demolition yard nearby but we live a fair distance out west NSW. I have sanded the boards a bit so the idea of using a stain might have to be the way to go. The decor is very old country (I love collecting antiques). I found an old Catholic Newspaper under the old kitchen cupboard from 1932. I am thinking of adding a few little tid bits of todays newspapers to the kitchen I just built for the next renovation! I will be adding that 'this kitchen was built by a woman". I will do that in the bathroom too. I already wrote on the inside of a sheet of gyprock but I bet that gets busted up into tiny pieces when it comes down and no one will know lol.

Do you have a Bunnings nearby? I know when my parents were renovating they hired a big industrial sander from bunnings and also bought the sealer there for their wooden floor boards..
Keep an eye out in the trading post for the weatherboards.. www.tradingpost.com.au

we to found old newspaper under the old flooring, actually held me up heaps as I spent hours reading and hubby caught me, also found a tin of tooth powder "Inghams" never heard of it, behind the wall boards, they also wrote when they last did the lounge up, all very interesting, we put some current coins behind the wall as well as some speights bottles of beer, also a little note to say who had done the renovations and when, all a lot of fun, remember
Lindy to take heaps of pics as you go along
